Nomination of Chris Madin for deletion

[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Chris Madin is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Chris Madin until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. TheRedBox (talk) 04:32, 6 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Disco-pop, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, such as at Articles for deletion. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Genre additions

[edit]

This source does not call it a "synth pop" song, in fact it doesn't even call it pop. Please stopping adding your own WP:Original research, it is not allowed on Wikipedia. This will be your final warning, as I'll be asking admin help if you add OR genres again to any Meghan Trainor song articles. Regards--NØ 09:46, 22 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on JT Music (Musical Group) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, a question that should have been asked at the help or reference desks, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". You have an obvious conflict of interest and you must declare it. If you work directly or indirectly for an organisation, including a band, or otherwise are acting on its behalf, you are very strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. If you are paid directly or indirectly by the organisation you are writing about, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Techoliver298. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Techoliver298|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If you are being compensated, please provide the required disclosure. Note that editing with a COI is discouraged, but permitted as long as it is declared. Concealing a COI can lead to a block. Please do not edit further until you respond to this message. Also read the following regarding writing an article:

  • you must provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that it meets the notability guidelines. Sources that are not acceptable include those linked to the band or an associated company, press releases, YouTube, IMDB, social media and other sites that can be self-edited, logs, websites of unknown or non-reliable provenance, and sites that are just reporting what the band claims or interviewing its management. Note that references should be in-line so we can tell what fact each is supporting, and should not be bare urls. I can't see any evidence at all that this band is notable enough for an article here.
  • You must write in a non-promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic, with verifiable facts, not opinions, reviews or collections of spamlinks.
  • There shouldn't be any url links in the article, only in the "References" or "External links" sections.
  • You must not copy text from elsewhere. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to pages created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly and explicitly that the text is public domain. We require that text posted here can be used, modified and distributed for any purpose, including commercial; text is considered to be copyright unless explicitly stated otherwise. There are ways to donate copyrighted text to Wikipedia, as described here; please note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright, or you have permission to use the text, isn't sufficient.

Before attempting to write an article again, please make sure that the topic meets the notability criteria linked above, and check that you can find independent third party sources. Also read Your first article. You must also reply to the COI request above.

Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Bryan Cranston into Kyle Edward Cranston. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. DanCherek (talk) 20:30, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Kyle Edward Cranston requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://gatekeepersnews.com/2023/03/30/breaking-bad-see-star-bryan-cranston-net-worth-and-biography/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

JJ Cummings redirects

[edit]

Hey! I was scrolling through the recently created redirects, and stumbled across the redirects JJ Cummings and J.J. Cummings, both recently created. Does the target of these redirects actually go by the name "JJ"? A quick google search didn't turn up everything, and he is not listed on the JJ (nickname) page, but I have never heard of this person before, so I wouldn't know whether it is a name he uses. As JJ is a nickname in its own right, I feel like a redirect from it could potentially be misleading if it is not used as a nickname (and a google search for JJ Cummings does pull up plenty of unrelated results, so I feel like that could be the case here). Kyle Edward Cranston moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Kyle Edward Cranston, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. It should have at least three, to be safe. And please remember that interviews, as primary sources, do not count towards GNG.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.Onel5969 TT me 10:03, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I've never seen anyone confuse Duran and Durant – doesn't mean it doesn't happen, but when neither "Kevin Duran" or "Durant Durant" pull up their intended targets on the first page of google search results, I start to doubt that their potential usefulness outweighs the potential for confusion (especially with Kevin Duran, because there are people by that exact name). Skarmory (talk • contribs) 00:39, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Kevin Duran requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a recently created redirect from an implausible typo or misnomer, or other unlikely search term.

Concerns with your redirect creations

[edit]

Hey. I'd like to note that I raised some concerns about your creation of redirects in the above deletion discussion for Avril Lavigne-Kroeger – it should have notified you, but that wasn't so much directed at you, and I wanted to leave another comment here.

It's hard for me to tell if you're reading what I say or not, since you don't respond to talk page messages. On a project like this, collaboration is key – I don't want to ask you to respond if you're not comfortable doing so, but I would like to know if you see what I say or not (any response, even thanking me for the edit as a sign that you've seen this, would be good; that's as far as I'm aware a public log, so others will be able to see you did it too).

Anyway, please be careful that redirects you create are actually going to be used. I've encountered multiple redirects of yours that have zero results on google after putting them inside quotation marks. It's a good idea to do a check to see if a name you're making a redirect from is actually used by the target – there's no point to creating redirects from names like Jennifer Veal-Hack if they get 0 google hits, as nobody is going to be using them as a search term. Redirects are made to aid navigation, and if nobody is ever going to type in the title they are at, then they're of no use to Wikipedia; this is even worse when a redirect has potential negative consequences like confusion with other people.

I should also warn you that if you keep violating policy by creating inappropriate redirects, you could easily get into trouble at some point down the line and potentially get blocked. I am willing to help direct you towards which redirects are good ideas to create and which aren't, but I can't do that without knowing you're even seeing these messages. If you do see this, the most important thing you should take away is to make sure redirects you create are valid search terms used by people. A birth name redirect is good, a first name + middle initial + last name redirect is probably fine (assuming it's not shared with anyone else), but stuff like unused first initial + middle initial + last name redirects (see: J. J. Cummings, likely to be ambiguous), and stuff like married names or hyphenated married names which are unused are probably not good redirects. The best way to check is just to plug it into google inside "quotation marks", like there.

Thanks. Skarmory (talk • contribs) 07:43, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, thank you for letting me know. I'll be more careful when creating redirects. Let me know if there is anything else I should know. Techoliver298 (talk) 13:05, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone, including you, is welcome to comment on this redirect at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2023 May 17 § Jennifer Hack until a consensus is reached.

Hey, I nominated 10 of your older redirects for deletion including some mentioned above. If you think any of them will be used, chip into the discussions – if not, no need. I found basically all of these had no hits for the target when searching them up on google inside "quotation marks", which is why I nominated them (full nom statement is in there). Don't worry too much about the past redirects getting deleted – as long as you continue to create useful redirects, it shouldn't be relevant. You may get a few more of these as I clean up any redirects that do not seem to be used. Like I said, feel free to contest any of them if you think they are useful. The article Jamal Woods has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not a notable NFL player and just redirects to a roster page he's not even a part of

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

August 2024 Edit Summaries

[edit]

Information icon Hello Techoliver298. I'm Quaerens-veritatem. I noticed you did not provide edit summaries for your edits of Hailee Steinfeld this month despite Eric's July request. You could have at least added "+ ref". Again, please provide a summary of every edit you make. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history. Summaries help other editors by (a) providing a reason for the edit, (b) saving the time to open up the edit to find out what it's all about, and (c) providing information about the edit on diff pages and lists of changes (such as page histories and watchlists).

According to Wikipedia's consensus policy, all edits should be explained —either by clear edit summaries, or by discussion on the associated talk page.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit and a summary of what the edit changes. You can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → Tick Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. As a reminder: When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

If the edit is minor, the "This is a minor edit" box can be checked. See, Help:Minor_edit. A good rule of thumb is that only edits consisting solely of spelling corrections, formatting changes, or rearrangement of text without modification of the content may be flagged as minor edits.

Many who are ignorant of the Wikipedia policy on edit summaries fail to add them. Some ignore this basic brief task; however, failure seems arrogant and inconsiderate specially since summaries are so easy to add. Thank you, Quaerens-veritatem (talk) 07:30, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Quick note re: source reliability

[edit]

Hello,

I've noticed recently that you've been adding citations to articles about entertainment figures. Thank you for taking the time to add citations and to ensure that our content is sourced. However, I would like to bring up this set of edits and edit, which appear to have link to AI-generated sites and/or press releases. In general, self-published sources (like press releases) are considered to be relatively low-quality, and AI-generated works are generally not considered to be reliable. Sources like newspapers and news websites and books published by reputable publishers tend to be a bit safer in this regard.

When making edits, especially about living people, would you please be careful regarding the reliability of the sources you are citing before you use them?

Cheers,
