Thanks for your contribs!!

[edit]

Hey!! I created Underscores (musician), and I saw that you added TONS of new information! It's the first time someone's made improvements that big to an article I started - thanks for all your work on it!! It's the new wave of the future :) remainsuncertain (talk) 21:40, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a ton, you did a great job setting it up!! I wish you good luck with your future Wikipedia endeavours! Averageuntitleduser (talk) 23:15, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Impressed with the edits!

[edit]

I'm here for pretty much the same reason as remainsuncertain, but I just want to say I'm impressed with the work you did over at Wallsocket! I didn't start the article or anything, I just had such a fluid reading experience. It's significantly better than how the article was written originally. Good work! Locust member (talk) 19:52, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I've seen you around; keep up the great maintenance work! And thanks again, it means a lot! I'm surprised myself at how well the prose has come together. I've learned that reception sections are my Achilles heel, though, but I should be finished editing it soon. Averageuntitleduser (talk) 00:35, 14 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I definitely want to contribute to articles like you do one day, and help them become fully-realized articles, and hopefully I can promote some articles to Good Articles in the future. Any tips you have on improving articles like you do? Or do you simply find articles on the album and add as much notable information as possible? Good luck on the reception section and thanks again! Locust member (talk) 15:09, 14 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Reception section done, thank you for the good luck! Funnily enough, I was mainly looking to clean up the Underscores article, but then it snowballed from there and now I'm considering putting it up for GA. I don't know about others, but I usually compile a list of sources (a lot of searching and Google News) and sort them by what area they cover. For things like the reception section, I wittle down a list of statements I want to use, then piece them together by what flows best. My current biggest tip is that, whenever you can, paraphrase a quotation in wikivoice, it saves a lot of hassle. Averageuntitleduser (talk) 02:34, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Reception section looks great! Gave it a read and it's very well done, great job. And hell yeah!!!! The article should be promoted to GA, it's absolutely worthy of that title. Thanks for the tips, I appreciate it! I'm looking to improve The Beggar (album) and your Wallsocket article will 100% be influential. Locust member (talk) 13:50, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You flatter me, tysm! And great idea, our Swans coverage could use a bit of love. You're already making quick work of it! I thought I'd quickly recommend WP:RECEPTION, in terms of grouping paragraphs by recurring opinions, and of course, MOS:ALBUM. Oh, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but I've found that the Meghan Trainor album articles are great resources, they range a lot in size but are all FAs. Anyway, forgive my ramblings, wishing you the best with the article! Averageuntitleduser (talk) 21:17, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Of course! Yep, I was working on it earlier today and will continue tonight. Thanks for the tips and the wishes! I'll see you around and good luck on future Good Articles! Locust member (talk) 01:37, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

GA criteria

[edit]

Hi there, was just checking your review of Guy Lombardo for the backlog drive. This does look like a reasonable QF but I wanted to be sure that the formatting questions you raised were not part of your decision. Have a look at WP:GACN for a refresher if you need to - sources definitely do not need to be consistently formatted (the bar here is practically in the ground). -- asilvering (talk) 02:54, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the reminder! I still think it's a quick-fail, but I definitely emphasized source formatting too much (after all, if you can understand what it is, then it's good enough). Averageuntitleduser (talk) 03:08, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I did a final edit to make the source formatting only an encouragement! Thank you again! Averageuntitleduser (talk) 03:10, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, and thanks for joining in on the drive! -- asilvering (talk) 03:12, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Wallsocket

[edit]

On 24 April 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Wallsocket, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that while touring for her album Wallsocket, Underscores handed out pizza before her sets? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Wallsocket. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Wallsocket), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Re: edits on Wallsocket

[edit]

Hi @Averageuntitleduser! I noticed the edit history on Wallsocket - particularly your note that you needed more secondary sources for the information on Scandinavian architecture and whatnot. I believe that you were already in the clear here; WP:ABOUTSELF states that the artist's own words are good enough to warrant the inclusion of otherwise questionable information about their works. Not trying to police you here, just saying that I think that your previous edits were good enough to include! Good work on the article, by the way! joeyquism (talk page) 20:55, 14 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for for reaching out! This was a bit ambiguous, whoops, but my secondary sources comment was directed to a paragraph about the Director's Cut. But still, looking back, I'd agree that some of the details I removed may have been worth including and weren't just bloat or undue. In fact, some of them, like the Bones and All inspiration, are probably worth re-adding considering this recent interview.
Might I add, lovely user page! The minimalist style translates so well. Averageuntitleduser (talk) 23:17, 14 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Of course! I would definitely advocate for the usage of the source you linked; it seems like a very valuable piece of information. I think that you've written a wonderful article altogether, and I really do believe that the reinstatement of the lobbed information would very much add to the article's comprehensiveness. I get where you're coming from on re: Director's Cut stuff; I didn't notice that edit until you mentioned it, so thank you for the clarification.
Thank you for noticing my user page! I've really come to love the visual aesthetic April curated for this album in particular, and I personally think she should continue to do the US geography-inspired projects. To me they're like a little homage to the unfinished 50 states project by Sufjan (or at least Illinois) that I believe you mentioned as one of her influences in the Wallsocket article! Again, great work on the article, and keep it up! I hope you have a wonderful rest of your week :) joeyquism (talk page) 00:21, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think my recent edit was rooted in surprise at how large the article was, but admittedly, April is much less underground now and the sourcing shows it. Thank you for the insight! I'll try to reinstate some info and expand the article; of course, anyone is willing to help.
I'd agree, I think she nailed that unnerving small town suburban feel in the music videos. Even the web design is so very American. Honestly, her New Jersey projects and this Michigan one almost parallel Sufjan's unfinished series. Whether she one-ups him with another states album or not, I will be listening. Thanks for the compliments, and have a great weekend! Averageuntitleduser (talk) 01:48, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

FAC review request

[edit]

HI! I really appreciated your taking the time to help review Maria Trubnikova for FA earlier this year. I nominated Nadezhda Stasova, an article about another member of the Russian feminist "triumvirate", for FAC review a month ago and it's been going through the process. However, it's only attracted 2 full reviewers and an image review so far, and though all 3 editors supported, I'm worried it'll get archived soon without another reviewer taking a look and helping develop a broader consensus. Do you have any time to comment on the article soon? If not, no worries of course, but if you do, thank you! —Ganesha811 (talk) 13:22, 28 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the late reply, Ganesha811! I was interested in reviewing this one as well, but my schedule got the best of me, and I've now been working rather frantically to finish up a nomination for the WiG meetup. However, I'll gladly review Anna Filosofova once Stasova's prose reviews finish up! Averageuntitleduser (talk) 22:16, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, and thank you for taking a look! Good luck with your nomination. —Ganesha811 (talk) 23:17, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@TechnoSquirrel69: No harm, no foul in failing the article, especially with the DCWC, I know you have a lot going on. I'll definitely look through the prose for tone and quotations. I still believe Marsh is reliable for concrete details, but yes, her writing is quite story–like, I no doubt aggravated this. Your concerns about Neely are also noted. Thanks for the detailed suggestions! Averageuntitleduser (talk) 04:01, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I sincerely appreciate your grace — I would love to stick with the review for as long as it needs, but can't in good faith say that I can! I'm more or less on the same page with you about Marsh. With some more thought gone into it, my recommendation would be to keep it as a primary source, but use the more reliable secondary sources as a guide for whether or not specific details from the book should be included under WP:WEIGHT. At an FAC source review, that's what I would accept, at least. TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 04:12, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

DCWC closing update

[edit]

The 2024 Developing Countries WikiContest has come to a close! After a thrilling finish to the event with a slew of submissions on the final day, we have our winners. With 608 points, Bronze Belt Buckle – 3rd place Thebiguglyalien (submissions) comes in third with his series of Kiribati and Botswanan submissions; Silver Belt Buckle – 2nd place Tuvalu BeanieFan11 (submissions) flies into second place at the last second with 771 points after a string of good articles about sportspersons; and after leading for much of contest's three months, Gold Belt Buckle – 1st place Generalissima (submissions) finishes with a whopping 798 points to take home the Gold Belt Buckle. Congratulations to our winners!

In addition to his spot in the top three, Tuvalu BeanieFan11 (submissions) also wins the special awards for submitting under the most countries (44 countries) and for writing the most articles about women (15 Did you know? nominations)! India Magentic Manifestations (submissions), after making 16 submissions under the Indian flag—15 of them good articles—receives the awards for most submissions for a single country and most featured or good articles promoted. For their submission of one FAC review, five FLC reviews, and 20 GAN reviews, Simongraham (submissions) wins for most article reviews.

The results of the contest have far exceeded any expectations the coordinators had for it at the beginning: among the submissions to the event were 3 FAs, 10 FLs, 88 GAs, dozens of article reviews of every kind, and more Did you know? submissions than we can count! Regardless of your level of participation, every contestant can be proud to have contributed towards a major step in countering the systemic bias on Wikipedia. Every year, millions of readers and editors around the globe use Wikipedia to educate themselves and communicate with others about parts of the world that often receive less attention than they deserve. Thank you for participating with us in the contest and contributing to this effort. The DCWC will return next year and we look forward to seeing you contribute again! However, before that...

We need your feedback! Join the conversation on the talk page to discuss your reflections on the contest (even if you didn't participate!) and help us make it better.
