The reason why New Zealand peaks should be used instead of Dutch ones
[edit]- Lana didn't get any certifications in the Netherlands while she got one Platinum album and two gold singles in NZ.
- Ultraviolence debuted at number one in NZ while it debutedat at number five in NLD.
- There are six Lana's songs charted on NZ singles chart. They are "Summertime Sadness" (#23) ,"Young and Beautiful" (#23) ,"Summertime Sadness (Remix)" (#30) ,"Young and Beautiful (Remix)" (#38) ,"West Coast" (#31) and "Brooklyn Baby" (#19). There are five Lana's songs charted on NLD singles chart. They are "Video Games" (#3) ,"Born to Die" (#89) ,"Young and Beautiful" (#79) ,"Summertime Sadness (Remix)" (#53) and "Brooklyn Baby" (#87).
- Discography pages like Lady Gaga discography and Katy Perry discography use New Zealand peaks. They don't use Dutch ones.
Lana seems to get better grades in New Zealand. —U990467(talk) 6:22, 22 June 2014 (UTC)
- See Harout72's comment, the Dutch market, and therefore its peaks, is much more significant than the New Zealand one. Higher peaks don't really mean anything, since it is much easier to get those peaks in New Zealand, since the market is so small. Littlecarmen (talk) 11:21, 22 June 2014 (UTC)
- I have seen that before.Though the market in New Zealand is small,it doesn't mean it's easier to get certifications or higher peaks.I haven't seen any discography page that removed New Zealand peaks! The discography pages using New Zealand peaks instead of using Dutch ones are more.(Like Nicki Minaj discography ,Taylor Swift discography , Miley Cyrus discography , Britney Spears discography ,Avril Lavigne discography ,Justin Timberlake discography and Lil Wayne discography.)—U990467(talk) 8:19, 22 June 2014 (UTC)
- At the moment the Dutch certification-database doesn't function, but Born to Die has earned a Platinum there for 50,000 units. As for the chart peaks, an album peaking at No.1 in New Zealand and staying at that position for one week there, may or may not generate enough sales that a market the size of the Netherlands can generate if an album spends one week in the top-5. Note that New Zealand generates only $57-66 million a year out of the annual Global $15-16 billion, while the Netherlands being one of the top-10 markets in the world, generates average of $220-250 million a year out of the global annual $15-16 billion.--Harout72 (talk) 16:20, 22 June 2014 (UTC)

Unreleased Music
[edit]I have removed the "Unreleased Music" section from this article. Before it was simply unsourced. Now I see that it is in no way encyclopedic or necessary to discuss. No other musical artist, not even any of Grant's contemporaries, have massive sections of their pages devoted to songs that it can be shown they wrote, performed, and recorded, but it has never made it onto a single or an LP. These songs have rarely if ever been heard they have certainly never been critiqued, so why should we focus more than half of this page on their coverage?—Ryulong (竜龙) 02:09, 19 May 2012 (UTC)
- The article seems to have gone from one extreme to another. These unreleased songs have received millions of views on youtube and need to be covered. It isn't very encyclopedic to omit important info like this. A P Monblat (talk) 20:18, 18 March 2015 (UTC)
Unreleased Music Videos

Expanding Charts
[edit]I feel like we should expand the charts more. We have this we can work off of. I added a bunch of the albums. I think we should do China, Denmark, Finland, and Portugal though (what's BE? lol) I tried finding chart info for Japan but couldn't find anything. --MrIndustry (talk) 18:08, 23 October 2012 (UTC)
- Wait, are we not supposed to list them all here? I was looking at Michael Jackson discography, that's why. --MrIndustry (talk) 18:53, 23 October 2012 (UTC)
- Oh... just realized I was looking at singles. Should we remove all these? lol --MrIndustry (talk) 18:54, 23 October 2012 (UTC)
Cola
[edit]I don't think "Cola" should be included in the singles section. A release date hasn't even been announced yet. teammathi (talk) 21:39, 16 November 2012 (UTC)
- I don't mind whether it's included. Guess I'm just preparing for the future. Don't want to get accused of WP:CBALL, though. Despite this, we should probably add chart info on Paradise (EP) now. --Thevampireashlee (talk) 21:45, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
US Rock Songs Chart
[edit]Several of her songs debuted this week, so some articles should be updated. AARON• TALK 00:29, 25 November 2012 (UTC)
- This link has them all in the one place. I'll update the individual song articles that currently exist, such as Cola (song) and National Anthem (song). Video Games (song) is currently a top-twenty hit on the Top Heatseekers chart too, if that's notable. --Thevampireashlee (talk) 04:01, 25 November 2012 (UTC)
- I created a redirect for each song that ranked on the Rock Songs chart to prevent the possible influx of premature article creations. They all point to Paradise (EP) (except Off to the Races (song)). Do these chart ranks satisfy WP:NSONG? My personal opinion is no. Album reviews for Paradise as a whole likely contain enough analysis of the craftsmanship, composition, and lyricism to justify articles, such as is done with each track from Born this Way, one of which I personally expanded. See Electric Chapel. Articles such as Electric Chapel and Government Hooker (a Good Article) thrive on much less, in my opinion, so I do not see why not. Off to the Races (song) was actually a promotional single in Europe during the Lana Del Rey (EP) days, I believe. Please let me know your opinions. If we agree to creating articles for songs like "American", "Body Electric", and "Gods & Monsters", I would like to start editing them immediately. --Thevampireashlee (talk) 04:31, 25 November 2012 (UTC)
- Most of these songs are currently charting in France as well [1] --Thevampireashlee (talk) 22:28, 25 November 2012 (UTC)
- If a song charts, no matter what chart, it's notable. WP:USCHARTS might help you with which US charts you can and can't include. AARON• TALK 22:48, 25 November 2012 (UTC)
- Created all of them except Off to the Races (song), Bel Air (song), and Radio (Lana Del Rey song). If anyone's feeling ambitious, they can create those. They'll take a bit more effort, due to music videos and multiple album releases, etc. Radio has a single cover too right here. --Thevampireashlee (talk) 23:46, 25 November 2012 (UTC)

The U.S. Rock positions are not based on sales; therefore, they should not be included as they aren't notable. Currently, all other peaks that are included in the singles tables, both for the U.S. and other markets, are based on sales and they should not be replaced by other than sales based charts. Also, let's keep in mind that we are to have approximately 10 columns for peaks per Wikipedia:WikiProject Discographies/style#Per-release (bullet 6), and we currently have 11 which is the maximum number of columns we're supposed to have.--Harout72 (talk) 23:55, 25 November 2012 (UTC)
- Right, for the discography article the US Rock Songs chart isn't notable, but it is notable for individual articles about the song or so WP:BILLBOARDCHARTS seems to imply. --Thevampireashlee (talk) 00:01, 26 November 2012 (UTC)
What has happened to this article?
[edit]Various seemingly destructive changes have been made to this article. First, why was the table for promotional singles removed? There are reliable sources that can prove that certain "singles" were actually buzz singles and not official releases intended for contemporary hit radio. With Lady Gaga discography, Kesha discography, Hilary Duff discography, and many other featured discographies for pop songstress as examples, this type of formatting appears to be the trend, if not the unwritten standard for articles of these types. So, why were the promotional singles merged with the singles table? It seems like the vandalism goes too far to undo it. Please engage in a dialogue with me; I'm very much interested in resolving this issue. Additionally, I have a specific question about Carmen (song) and Dark Paradise. Now, "Carmen" was released as a single in Austria, while "Dark Paradise" is a German single. Are these to be considered as singles or buzz singles? --Thevampireashlee (talk) 02:20, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
- The promotional table was created by Dark Beauty Paradise, which I personally agreed with and thought it was worth keeping, just needed some work. A table for Soundtrack which was also created by User:Dark Beauty Paradise, I removed because I believe it was unnecessary. I'm not sure if all of the edits made by User:Dark Beauty Paradise deserved to be reverted.--Harout72 (talk) 08:34, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
- Promo singles were not merged into a singles table, they were corrected as being singles. They are not promo singles unless they are free of charge, or we have a reliable source calling them one. If not, by default, it is a single. Please, provide the reliable sources that call each one a buzz single. A single is simply a song that is released apart from an album to buy. Zach 08:38, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
- There's no reason to be rude. All you had to say was that the word "promotional single" was not sourced for any of these songs. I was under the impression that they were. Also, the second part of my question wasn't answered. How do we handle singles that are only released for individual purchase in certain countries? --Thevampireashlee (talk) 23:40, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
- If anybody is being rude here, it's you, saying my edits to the article deserve such a response as to: "what has happened to this article?" I did answer the second part of your question. It doesn't matter what country it is released in, it's still a single. "Dark Paradise" is a German-only single, but it's still a single. Zach 00:36, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you for clarifying. My choice of title for this topic was not directed at you or anyone, merely the changes I saw in the article. I did not know who made those changes. --Thevampireashlee (talk) 00:39, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
- It's alright. I apologize if I wasn't clear in the beginning. I tend to think that some things are just commonly known (so I don't have to explain), but apparently that is not so. Zach 00:40, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

- The inclusion of "Off to the Races" as well as "Carmen" and others under the "singles" table has been debated. See Talk:Lana Del Rey discography#What has happened to this article?. Charts in the album table (NLD or POL?)
[edit]Hi, I was wondering if the list of the countries that are included in the chart position shouldn't be changed.
If you look at Born to Die (Lana Del Rey album)#Certifications, you'll see that Poland is the 5th country with highest sales (after UK, US, Germany and France). It is also the only country where the album was certified Diamond.
When it comes to Born to Die (Lana Del Rey album)#Charts, the album had the same peak position in weekly charts in Poland and the Netherlands, but in Poland it is way higher in the year-end charts.
I propose that we put Poland in the table instead of the Netherlands, where the album wasn't even certified. Mayast (talk) 17:20, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
- Born to Die is possibly certified in the Netherlands, we just can't verify it at the moment as NVPI's certification database doesn't function. But overall, Poland may not be a good candidate for the discographies as ZPAV doesn't offer peaks for singles, if I'm not mistaken. Also, the Netherlands has the 10th largest music market in the world, quite notable size wise.--Harout72 (talk) 06:19, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah, we don't have a proper singles chart - only top 5 airplay.Anyway, I'm satisfied with your arguments, thanks! :) Mayast (talk) 10:06, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
New Zealand's peaks should be left out
[edit]We'd had Dutch album peaks since pretty much the beginning, that was changed just recently. Dutch peaks should not be replaced with New Zealand's peaks because the latter has a very small music market, while the Netherlands has the 10 largest music market. In fact NZ's music market is so small that it never makes it in the top 20 of IFPI's annual list (see page 24). Besides, New Zealand, doesn't have notable peaks for any of the singles, No.23 for both "Summertime Sadness" and "Young and Beautiful", the Netherlands has No.11 for "Video Games". As far as album peaks go, both the Netherlands and New Zealand have No.2 for Born to Die, the former is definetly more preferable as it has market four times the size of NZ's.--Harout72 (talk) 14:32, 20 July 2013 (UTC)
"Carmen" and "Summertime Sadness (Cedric Gervais Remix)"
[edit]I've seen "Carmen" be removed and re-added and removed and re-added again a few times now. According to Talk:Lana Del Rey discography#What has happened to this article?, "Carmen" is a single and should be included in the singles chart. Concerning the Cedric Gervais remix of "Summertime Sadness", shouldn't that only be listed on Cedric Gervais' discography? Littlecarmen (talk) 14:07, 21 April 2014 (UTC)
- "Summertime Sadness (Gervais remix)" is a completely separate release, thus its peaks should be listed separately as we currently have.--Harout72 (talk) 15:17, 21 April 2014 (UTC)
French Diamond certification
[edit]@Harout72: Where does it say that certifications must be sourced by the certifying agency? I can't read that anywhere in WP:DISCOGSTYLE. Littlecarmen (talk) 16:15, 24 June 2014 (UTC)
- While WP:DISCOGSTYLE doesn't immediately specify that certification must come from certifying agencies, it lists the names of the certification-suppliers, RIAA, BPI, BVMI, SNEP etc., all of which have certification-databases and do offer all certifications that officially get issued. Supporting the certifications at discographies with only certifying bodies, has widely been accepted by wiki community. There have been sources in the past, which have incorrectly spoken about certifications that were never issued, mainly speculated based on units sold. Of course, this source a bit separates itself from those kind of sources, but still we have SNEP, which will undoubtedly post the Diamond-award soon. By the way, that source should not be used in the sales column either, as the Diamond-award for 500,000 units is not necessarily units that have been sold, those are shipped units.--Harout72 (talk) 00:26, 25 June 2014 (UTC)

"Ultraviolence", "Shades of Cool", "Brooklyn Baby" were not released as singles.
[edit]Those three songs were promotionial singles prior to the album's release. They do not count as "official singles". "Ultraviolence" was announced as the second singles and remixes for the song were produced but they were never officially released, because the singles' release was cancelled. A remix EP for Black Beauty was later released in November 2014. Therefore, the only official singles from the album are "West Coast" and "Black Beauty". — Preceding unsigned comment added by KevinKevinson (talk • contribs) 03:06, 4 March 2015 (UTC)

[edit]"Wait For Life" by Emile Haynie featuring Lana Del Rey has been classified by a single by Pitchfork Magazine. And if not a single, it's probably a promotional single at least. Also shouldn't The Age of Adaline song be included in her other appearances list?? Last thing, considering most of her songs chart on the Hot Rock songs chart because she is usually classified as a soft rock artist, shouldn't we include that instead one of the countries where only a few of her songs have charted.--Sweden Rocks hard (talk) 02:42, 28 April 2015 (UTC)

Orphaned references in Lana Del Rey discography
[edit]I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Lana Del Rey discography's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Promo singles VS official singles
[edit]The following songs "Blue Velvet", "Shades of Cool", "Brooklyn Baby" and "Brooklyn Baby" are listed as singles on LDR's discography, but as far as I know these songs did not receive any individual release and do not fit the criteria listed for an official single on WP:PROMOSINGLE. I propose they be moved to the promotional singles list, unless you can find any proof of them being official singles. "Blue Velvet" did receive a picture disc release in the Born to Die: The Paradise Edition box set but I'm not sure if this would classify as a single release since it was just included with the box set, and not distributed individually. Contribute your thoughts below! AgWoolridge (talk) 13:08, 4 November 2017 (UTC)
Removing chunks of info
[edit]Well a picky Ss12 seems to want longer edit summaries entered into the Talk section. For the record, no one should be removing chunks of information when unexplained or unjustified. That's what edit summaries are for. They are the ones who need to take to the talk page. No one should be obligated to take to the talk page every time new information is added. So if you're going to remove information, say, a song or two from a chart, and you're not going to give a valid explanation in an edit summary, at least take to the talk page (first). -- AlexanderHovanec (talk) 07:29, 1 January 2018 (UTC)
- @AlexanderHovanec: My user name is Ss112, not "Ss12". I said if you have an issue with a user—which was not with me, by the way, but with @AgWoolridge: either bring it up first on their talk page, and tell them to bring it here, or do it yourself as you have just done. Edit summaries are objectively not the place to sort out your problems with users. Sure, they are for explaining why you reverted and your reasoning, but not the place if you have a deeper issue with what an editor has done, which you seemed to. It's not being picky, it's being sensible. See WP:Edit summaries. Ss112 08:24, 1 January 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for that! How was I supposed to see it without you giving me the link? — Preceding unsigned comment added by MR73 (talk • contribs) 16:59, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
- MR73, There's a button at the top of the page next to the "Article" button, reading "Talk". That's where it is. Same area as the Edit button, opposite side of the screen. —moonythedwarf (Braden N.) 19:03, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
Would it be relevant that VIOLET BENT BACKWARDS OVER THE GRASS would be placed in the album category?
[edit]Personnally, I don't see the pertinence of a category for a spoken word album. I think VIOLET BENT BACKWARDS OVER THE GRASS should be placed in the album section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MR73 (talk • contribs) 17:07, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
- No, because it's not a musical album, it is a book, therefore, it should not be placed in the Studio Album table. You might want to revert your last edit.--Harout72 (talk) 17:14, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
- I agree that an audiobook should not be included in the "Studio albums" section. I have not been able to find any specific guideline about this, but while not arguing WP:OTHERSTUFF I will note that searching for "discography audiobook" in Wikipedia turns up a large number of discography pages which include audiobooks, and every one I've looked at has the audiobooks in a separate section from studio albums. Although for consistency I would argue that the section should be titled "Audio books" rather than "Spoken word albums". CodeTalker (talk) 18:37, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, naming the table Audiobooks would be an ideal choice. I will implement it shortly.--Harout72 (talk) 18:40, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
their is actually some music on that album. that's not an audiobook, that's a spoken word album with some music behind it. You can actually buy the album on vinyl and CD. There's the book and there's the album wich are two separate things
- Although it does apparently have background music, Lana del Rey's own website calls it an audiobook. CodeTalker (talk) 18:19, 5 November 2020 (UTC)
Sales figures for singles
[edit]I am thinking of removing sales figures for singles, given that they are not always available for each single, thus making it hard to navigate for singles where both certifications and sales columns are missing. Some singles contain first-week sales (such as "Lust for Life" or "Don't Call Me Angel"), which is rather WP:INDISCRIMINATE. I would like to hear more from editors involved,` HĐ (talk) 04:53, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
