List of Colombians killed during the Russian invasion of Ukraine

At least 71 Colombian citizens have been killed during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, 70 of them as servicemen of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and most of them being military veterans. One Colombian fighting for the Ukrainian Armed Forces was also captured by the Russian Army in June 2024. In addition, three Colombians are listed as missing in action fighting for Ukraine, while two went missing as they were returning to Colombia. As of July 2024, 200 Colombians were fighting in Ukraine.[1]

Colombian fighters are increasingly drawn to Ukraine because the pay they receive there is much higher than what is normally paid in Colombia.[2]

On 4 June 2024, the Colombian Ambassador in the United Kingdom said that 51 Colombian nationals died in Ukraine fighting as mercenaries.[3] The following list contains 69 servicemen listed as killed among the Armed Forces of Ukraine:

In addition, one Colombian, Alexis Castillo, aged 34, was killed while fighting on the side of the pro-Russian separatists on October 28, 2022, in the Donbas region.[69]

Other casualties

On 6 June 2024, Miguel Ángel Cárdenas Montilla, a ex-colombian policeman fighting for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, was captured by Russian forces.[3] In addition, three Colombians, Anderson David Manquillo,[70] Juan Daniel Tangarife Gutiérrez and Ekar Camargo Brito went missing in action in Ukraine,[71][72] while two more, Alexander Ante and Jose Aron Medina Aranda, went missing as they were returning to Colombia.[73]
