Congratulations on your acceptance into university! Yay you! --Working for Him 21:58, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I remember leaving you a congrats for you university acceptance, then I came back and saw it was gone so I assumed I didn't click Save page or something, then I remember coming back to see I never wrote, then I returned once more to say something similar to what I am saying now. Am I crazy or are you deleting my messages? (Please tell me you are, and that I'm not insane)

BTW, I don't usually create run-on sentences, just when I'm confused.

Okay, thanks. I can deal with being crazy, I think. Anyway, do you have any idea why my talk page text is yellow? Or am I crazy about that too? --Working for Him 01:07, 16 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Sputnikcccp. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:Jamiroquailogo.jpg) was found at the following location: User:Sputnikcccp/Archive2. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. I am having trouble with an article on the city of Jincheng. I have lived there and cited sources for my comments on the city. My comments are constantly deleted by a Chinese person that may not agree with them. What can I do about this? Please advise me on this. Wikipedia is not going to be enjoyable if the contents are monitored by nationalistic Chinse citizens. Thank you

request for deletion of a thread

edit

Hi Sputnik, I remember you welcomed me to wikipedia soon after I joined. I didn't reply or anything, because I thought it was just a general welcome, but I was thankful for getting your official intro. I'm wondering if you can help me with something. I would like a thread on my talk page (no. 6: Orwell) deleted completely, if possible. The whole thing was based on a misunderstanding, as a result of which I got emotional and far too frank. No one was hurt or insulted as a result, I just feel very silly about it. I expect you probably have to be an admin to authorise it, so I was wondering if you could put me in touch with one who would be willing to help (I actually thought you were one, but I can't see it mentioned on your user page). I've tried reading the Wikipedia pages on deletion of stuff, but there is no detailed information on the procedure - it just says that you can do it under certain circumstances. Regards, The Mad Echidna 00:25, 2 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Sputnik, I appreciate the help. Good to see you're around on the ref desks, too. It seems to be the best part of Wikipedia, especially the Humanities Desk. Also, I've placed a watch on this page, so you can reply here if you need to. Regards, The Mad Echidna 06:10, 4 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Request for permission to use the figure

edit

Dear Sputnikcccp,

We wrote a paper which is almost accepted for publication in Physics Education. The title of the paper is "Eratosthenes teaching with a globe in a school yard". We would like to incorporate in this paper your picture of the equatorial sundial in Beijing, which is published in Wikipedia's article on sundials.

I am writing to you in order to ask your permission that we incorporate your picture in the mentioned article. In the case of your positive answer, would you be so kind to write me the e-mail address, or mail address, to which I could send the Permission form, prepared by the Publisher- Institute of Physics, London, in order that you could sign it.

Thanking you in advance for your answer,

with my best regards,

Speedy deletion of Niçoise salad

edit

A tag has been placed on Niçoise salad requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article consists of a dictionary definition that has been transwikied and the author information recorded.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Year page formatting of multiple events

edit

Hello, I'm sending you this message since you were involved in the August 2005 survey on year pages. As I don't know if you've gathered, somebody has been fighting for a change to the house style on how to notate multiple events on the same date. A discussion is currently in progress - your contribution (including whether you still favour the style you voted for or have changed your mind) would be appreciated! -- Smjg (talk) 15:32, 15 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hebrew alphabet

edit

Hi,

You worked on improving articles about the Hebrew alphabet once. I recently noticed that in the English Wikipedia articles about the Hebrew are quite organized strangely: The articles are about the corresponding letters in all semitic alphabets, from ancient Phoenician to modern Hebrew, Arabic and Syriac. This means that single Hebrew, Arabic and Syriac letters don't get their proper treatment here, as they do on many other Wikipedias (like German, French, Catalan, Hebrew and others). I find this confusing. Was it just created like that and never fixed, or is it based on some decision to merge them?

I thought about improving this situation. I may use User:Sputnikcccp/Hebrew Alphabet in the process.

I'd like to hear your thoughts about it.

Thanks in advance. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 18:17, 22 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Question for СПУТНИК

edit

Hi, СПУТНИК,

I am trying to remember a Jewish term that could be slang for junk. By junk I mean maybe a small collection of fairly worthless articles, or just a shelf full of stuff you treasure but is really kinda not worth a lot. It might be something like "kitch" or "ketch" and you might use it in a sentence like this, "I hope she doesn't add any more kitch to her tacky apartment!" Do you know what that word might be?

Thank you! Sarum blue

Using your great photo of ibex in the desert in my book

edit

Hi, there! I am an author who's working on a children's book on colourblindness. You may be aware that one of the surprising benefits of being colourblind is that it's easier to "see through" camouflage.

I wanted to use your great photo of ibex in the desert that I found on Wikimedia commons (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ibexes.jpg) as an example of this in my book.

Of course, I would credit you in the book and provide a link to your Wikipedia page.

However, I need a higher-resolution version (at least 300 dpi and about 5" wide).

Would you be able to provide me with this? (basically, the largest JPG file you have of it would be great and will probably be high enough resolution)

Best regards,

Anne

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. Proposed deletion of File:Sumo wrestling, Nagoya 2005.jpg

edit

The file File:Sumo wrestling, Nagoya 2005.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unused low quality photo

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --TheImaCow (talk) 21:50, 18 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
