Seku Amadu, Amadu Seku, and Amadu Amadu
Thanks for your work on articles related to the history of Mali. I noticed that you recently moved the articles for two of the rulers of what is referred to as the Massina Empire - Amadu Seku and Amadu Amadu - to titles which do not, as far as I've ever seen, correspond to what is used in academic literature or what one would hear locally (namely "Seku Amadu II" and "Seku Amadu III"). I've requested that those pages be reverted back to their original titles. In the meantime I've made corresponding changes in the text of those 2 articles as well as Seku Amadu, and added succession boxes.--A12n (talk) 12:14, 23 February 2013 (UTC)

DYK nomination of Karamokho Alfa
Hello! Your submission of Karamokho Alfa at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Yoninah (talk) 22:00, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

Welcome back
Hope you enjoyed your skiing trip and didn't sustain a Lindsey Vonn-like injury. I wondered if you'd be interested in writing an article on Fatimid architecture.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 13:23, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
Yes, very notable subject though, that's a great start anyway!!♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 20:45, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
Can you find anything on Food Weekly News or Agriculture Week?♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 13:07, 6 March 2013 (UTC)
Can you do me a favour and let me know if you think Harry Kiyoshi Ishisaka is notable or not.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 22:27, 6 March 2013 (UTC)
I did, last month in fact, and it got deleted. I wasn't even told about the AFD and it was wrongly deleted i thought. Can you restart it and I'll help? I think he was one of the most important figures in aikido in the United States, certainly in California. sources in google books seem to confirm this.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 11:41, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
Super start, I'm disgusted that it was deleted without me even being notified. And my original article wasn't too bad either and had several sources and explanations of why he was notable. Might want to check the thing about Seagal moving to Japan in 1973 though, in interviews I think he said he was 16 or 17 and it was in the late 1960s. He also claims to have met the founder of aikido in Japan before his death which was 1969 I think. Seagal is mad keen about Ishisaka though and says he was the most important person in his development on aikido.17:13, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
Well, Seagal always implied he moved to Japan permanently at the age of 16 so you might want to clarify that one in his article, I thought it was always odd that such a young kid would move to Japan like that by himself!. Seagal's a curious one, he has the tendency to exaggerate a lot of what he did and anything he says must be exercised with caution!♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 19:21, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
DYK for Karamokho Alfa
On 6 March 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Karamokho Alfa, which you created or substantially expanded. The DYK project (nominate) 00:02, 6 March 2013 (UTC)
Greetings. I have always been fascinated by your name which sounds Indian, particularly Matha. I should have replied to your note on my talk page long time back. Some how I missed. I have also added some text to the above article which you have started. Today, I have added text on the Cairo forts with text from two very reliable references. You may like to use them to add to the text on forts which you have added. Interestingly all Islamic monuments in India have close roots to Persian and Arabic invaders, on which I have written many articles (many with Dr. B and Rosie) over the last 5 years. Also, please see if you can add some text to Atiq Mosque (Awjila), the first mosque in Libya, to make it 5x. I have tried today also. --Nvvchar. 14:17, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
- If my family tradition is to be believed, I do have Indian blood, but it is not clear whether that is Indian Indian or North American Indian. Either or both are possible. My grandmother, Nellie Yule, was from Orkney. The Orkney traders were active in Hudson's Bay, and some brought home Cree wives. But the "AY" part of my userid stands for Andrew Yule. I like hot curries and am comfortable camping in the northern woods. I think it must remain a mystery. Aymatth2 (talk) 02:15, 9 March 2013 (UTC)
- If you like hot curries you definitely have Scottish blood hehe! I do too! And of course the home of Chicken Tikka Masala. BTW I have nommed Omar Derdour for GA. Khazar has identified two dead links in the sources, as you added those can you look into it?♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 12:14, 9 March 2013 (UTC)
- Chicken tikka masala is exactly the sort of adulteration of an authentic culinary tradition that one would expect from a nation better known for deep-fried Mars bars. On the other hand Moose Madras is, in my view, a highly innovative example of cross-cultural cuisine. Aymatth2 (talk) 19:40, 9 March 2013 (UTC)

- I do not have any more text to add. Probably you may like to nominate it on DYK, though a day late today.--Nvvchar. 12:46, 10 March 2013 (UTC)
- Agreed. I will be adding some text soon. In case you can not find references to the unrefrenced text in some paras of the Fatimad article, you may like to consider deleting them for the present and adding them later when you may like to post it for GA.--Nvvchar. 16:15, 10 March 2013 (UTC)

With a bit of work I think Fatimid architecture will make GA. I know you don't appear to rate GA too highly, but I think it's worth it because we have so little really on architecture and it makes it easier for people to find decent articles than if it wasn't GA. I forget, do you have JSTOR sccess or not?♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 13:49, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
I have yet to get a hang of your way of referencing. Hence I have followed the way I have done in the last few years. Dr.B is right about taking Fatimad architecture to GA. It has shaped up very nicely.--Nvvchar. 14:48, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
Yes, I'm accessing some material currently which says that the Fatimids actually used symbolic architectural features from places like Mesopotamia for good international relations. Above all it seems they largely copied from Mesopotamia and Mediterranean Byzantine but as one scholar said they did develop a unique style of mosque. Also this which you might like to use further mentions more about their mauseoleums which they also contributed to.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 14:51, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

Atique Mosque
After your last note under the DYK review of this article there has been no movement towards acceptance. Can you please consider leaving a note to the effect that "A Note to the effect:Sources conflict on the period of dating the mosque - either during 7th century as given in several travel sites or 12th century by Peterson as is cited here [2] , ref 11 in the article, pending agreement of authoritative sources” will be added in the article? Hence, the ALT3:Hook is suggested for acceptance". Thanks.--Nvvchar. 13:32, 17 April 2013 (UTC)

I put Pikes Hotel up for GA, it's pretty comprehensive. Just requested some photos on flickr and seems my feeling about the place was right. [3] [4]. I mean you can literally smell the stink of the first one can't you, looks like the set of a low-budget sleazy 70s San Francisco porno movie, not that I would know about that ahem. If you've ever seen The Enforcer (1976 film) you'll know the scene where he falls through the roof onto the set and it looks just like it! The headboard and the light gross me out, evokes unsavory images of Peter Stringfellow and a whole lot of whips and, urgh, well you know.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 21:37, 19 April 2013 (UTC)

[5] [6] Can you create an article if you can find anything on him? He has an article on French and German wiki.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 15:09, 21 April 2013 (UTC)
Maybe they were right to delete it, but I spotted his name in a very notable article (Émile Durkheim) and thought he might have been notable.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 17:30, 21 April 2013 (UTC)
I mean, mentioned in the same sentence as Claude Lévi-Strauss and Michel Foucault!! Naturally I am aware of what meets notability guidelines but you do often seem able to dig up sources nobody else can find. JSTOR has 11 hits but most like in google books are his works and not about him so probably fails on that.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 18:21, 21 April 2013 (UTC)
Can you find anything more on Æthelgeard? See discussion on talk page, it has been confused with a bishop of Cornwall but the bishop is referring to Æthelhard. However one or two sources mention him as being the Bishop of WInchester, an area he does seem to have been associated with but not sure if its the same person. Æthelheard of Winchester I think it is highly likely they're the same person based on the dates and his landownership in Winchester where he kept his archives. Also not convinced on the Frome reference, that sources seem to infer that those they're talking about were late 11th century not 950s.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 08:48, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

A lot of people who I respect have voted keep like DGG and Kiefer, but my opinion is that it's little more than a blog whinging about wikipedia and I can't see how it really has "extensive coverage in multiple reliable sources". Hey Aymatth2
I'm sending you this because you've made quite a few edits to the template namespace in the past couple of months. If I've got this wrong, or if I haven't but you're not interested in my request, don't worry; this is the only notice I'm sending out on the subject :).
So, as you know (or should know - we sent out a centralnotice and several watchlist notices) we're planning to deploy the VisualEditor on Monday, 1 July, as the default editor. For those of us who prefer markup editing, fear not; we'll still be able to use the markup editor, which isn't going anywhere.
What's important here, though, is that the VisualEditor features an interactive template inspector; you click an icon on a template and it shows you the parameters, the contents of those fields, and human-readable parameter names, along with descriptions of what each parameter does. Personally, I find this pretty awesome, and from Monday it's going to be heavily used, since, as said, the VisualEditor will become the default.
The thing that generates the human-readable names and descriptions is a small JSON data structure, loaded through an extension called TemplateData. I'm reaching out to you in the hopes that you'd be willing and able to put some time into adding TemplateData to high-profile templates. It's pretty easy to understand (heck, if I can write it, anyone can) and you can find a guide here, along with a list of prominent templates, although I suspect we can all hazard a guess as to high-profile templates that would benefit from this. Hopefully you're willing to give it a try; the more TemplateData sections get added, the better the interface can be. If you run into any problems, drop a note on the Feedback page.

Givors canal
Although I respectfully disagree with your reversion of the verb tense changes in Givors canal, I respect your opinion. I have, however, restored the edits of paragraph spacing (removing unnecessary carriage return / line feeds) in my edits that was also reverted. Truthanado (talk) 01:26, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

Shape file for Selva Zoque
Hi there,
I see that you edited the map for the Selva Zoque in Mexico, which looks great, thanks!
Is there any chance that you could send me the shape file for the map, so that I can adapt it myself? I can't find any other source for it.
My email is marmaladesandwich@hotmail.com
Many thanks!

- I can't find any trace of it. Nowadays I would make an .svg map using Inkscape, but my guess is this one was done with PowerPoint, saved as .png and the PowerPoint thrown away. Probably one of the sources cited in the article has a similar map, but the shape would have to be traced again from scratch. Sorry... Aymatth2 (talk) 15:38, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

Notable?♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:54, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. Started Malören and spotted that we're missing an article on a whole archipelago of northern Sweden which has 792 islands, the Kalix archipelago or Islands of Bothnian Bay. All of the islands to the south of here. Kalix article mentions some of the islands but we really need a detailed article on it and many sub articles on the notable islands of the groups.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:42, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
- sv:Kalix skärgård does not have much. It is part of the Norrbottens skärgård (North Bothnian Bay archipelago), which also includes the Pite skärgård, sv:Lule skärgård and sv:Haparanda skärgård. The last is a national park. Might be better to do the four in one, at least to start. Maybe they could go into Bothnian Bay, split out later if it seems to be getting too big. Aymatth2 (talk) 15:16, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
It's difficult to know where to start, I'd say it would probably be better to get Bothnian Bay up to scratch first as you say. Either way it appears to be a poorly covered area.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:15, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
Your satellite main image doesn't identify the bay, in fact it obscures it confuses things by the snow cover. Not sure why you think it is better than a map showing the location..15:34, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
- The top image position in the infobox is generally used for a photograph of the waterbody, not a map. There are other seascape photos, but the satellite photo seems rather dramatic. The European locator map is below it, which most readers will recognize. Few readers would recognize the Gulf of Bothnia outline. But from the large-scale map in the infobox, readers will be able to zoom in to the two maps in the "Extent" section, showing the bay within the gulf, and the bay in more detail. Aymatth2 (talk) 15:45, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
Aesthetically it looks better of course, just confusing in that its the whole of Scandinavia and is covered in ice so looking at the image initially it's difficult to really see where it is, perhaps if you modified it with a label or added exact location to the caption it would help?♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:19, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Gamaliel (talk) 19:13, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
- Aymatth2, do you think there is some reason that Kohs' appearance on a national cable TV program ("Attack of the Show!") on the G4 network, is not referenced anywhere in his biography? - 2001:558:1400:10:A8E0:A6C8:1F09:21B (talk) 14:40, 2 October 2013 (UTC)
- It could be mentioned as a relevant event, but is not really independent commentary. Feel free to add it, though. Aymatth2 (talk) 14:59, 2 October 2013 (UTC)
Edit warring
Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.
To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. See BRD for how this is done. You can post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection. Dan Murphy (talk) 14:05, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
