  • 1858 - The 1858 San Diego hurricane passed just to the west of San Diego, California, bringing heavy rain and powerful winds to the city. It is the only tropical cyclone ever recorded to directly affect the state as a hurricane.
  • 2014 - Typhoon Phanfone (pictured) peaked as a Category 4 super typhoon, with 1-minute sustained winds of 255 km/h (155 mph), a few days before re-curving to Japan, and caused a total of $100 million in damage and killed 11 people.

  • 1976 - Hurricane Madeline made landfall on the Mexican coast at its peak intensity. Extensive evacuations kept casualties to a minimum with a total of only seven deaths.
  • 2001 - Hurricane Iris (pictured), as Category 4 major hurricane with winds of 230 km/h (145 mph), makes landfall over in Belize, killing 36 people with damages totaled up to $258 million.

  • 1970 - Typhoon Joan moved through the Philippines, killing 768 people less than a week before another typhoon – Kate – struck the country.
  • 1992 - Typhoon Yvette (pictured) attained peak intensity with 1-minute sustained winds of 285 km/h (115 mph) and a minimum pressure of 915 hPa.
  • 2018 - Hurricane Leslie transitioned into an extratropical cyclone just before striking Portugal; Leslie caused 17 fatalities and an estimated damage total of €424 million (US$500 million).

  • 1982 - Typhoon Nancy with 1-minute sustained winds of 215 km/h (130 mph) makes landfall over northern Luzon killing 128 people and damages of $58 million.
  • 1998 - Typhoon Zeb (pictured) made landfall on northeastern Luzon in the Philippines having weakened from its peak intensity of 285 km/h (180 mph) winds. Zeb killed a total of 99 people and left about $800 million in damage.
  • 2012 - Cyclone Anais reached peak intensity east of northern Madagascar, marking the earliest in a south-west Indian Ocean cyclone season for an intense tropical cyclone.

  • 1970 - Typhoon Kate struck Mindanao in the Philippines, killing 631 people.
  • 1985 - Typhoon Dot made landfall on Luzon in the Philippines. Dot killed 90 people and caused more than $80 million in damage.
  • 2010 - Typhoon Megi (pictured) struck Luzon in the Philippines at peak intensity, and it later affected Taiwan with heavy rainfall, causing 69 deaths.

  • 1994 - Typhoon Teresa reaches peak intensity only as a Category 1 typhoon. Teresa killed a total of 14 and caused damages of $67.4 million.
  • 2005 - Hurricane Wilma (pictured) became the most intense Atlantic hurricane on record with a central pressure of 882 hPa (mbar) to the east of the Yucatán Peninsula. Damages from Wilma were recorded nearly at $30 billion.

  • 1983 - Hurricane Tico made landfall in Mexico near the city of Mazatlán. Tico killed at least nine people and was responsible for $66 million of damage.
  • 1986 - Hurricane Roslyn weakens from a Category 4 hurricane as it re-curves towards Mexico.
  • 2004 - Typhoon Tokage (pictured) makes landfall over in Japan just before it became extratropical which caused about $3 billion in damages.

  • 1952 - Typhoon Trix moved through the Philippines and later struck Vietnam, killing 1,400 people along its path.
  • 2009 - Hurricane Neki (pictured) in the Central Pacific reaches peak intensity as a Category 3 major hurricane while located several miles west of Hawaii.

  • 1988 - Hurricane Joan struck southeastern Nicaragua as a Category 4 hurricane, killing 216 people and leaving more than US$2 billion in damage.
  • 1998 - Typhoon Babs hit the Philippines eight days after Typhoon Zeb. Babs killed 221 people in the Philippines and caused over $6.5 billion of damage, which prompted a recession in the country.
  • 2003 - Typhoon Ketsana (pictured), while east of the Philippines, reaches its peak strength as a Category 4 with 10-minute winds of 165 km/h (105 mph).
  • 2010 - Cyclone Giri struck Myanmar while rapidly intensifying, killing 157 people.

  • 1988 - Typhoon Ruby made landfall in the Philippines causing over $200 million in damage, and sinking a passenger ferry in the Visayan Sea which killed 387 of the people on board.
  • 2006 - Cyclone Xavier became the strongest recorded South Pacific tropical cyclone in the month of October, attaining 10 minute winds of 175 km/h (110 mph).
  • 2018 - Typhoon Yutu (pictured) becomes the strongest typhoon to impact the Mariana Islands with 1-minute sustained winds of 280 km/h (175 mph). Yutu later impacted the Philippines, and combined damages were toppled to US$854 million.

  • 1961 - Tropical Storm Harriet struck Thailand, killing 935 people and becoming the nation's deadliest natural disaster on record.
  • 2002 - Hurricane Kenna made landfall on the Mexican coast near San Blas, Nayarit with winds of 225 km/h (140 mph). Kenna caused $5 million of damage.
  • 2023 - Hurricane Otis (pictured) made landfall on the Mexican coast near Acapulco as the first recorded Category 5 Pacific hurricane on record. Otis killed at least 52 people and left more than $12 billion in damage.

  • 1971 - A cyclone moved ashore southeastern India, killing 10,000 people.
  • 2005 - Hurricane Beta (pictured) made landfall over in Nicaragua which killed nine people in total with damages of $15.5 million.
