- 2003 - Cyclone Ami moved through Fiji, killing 14 people and leaving heavy damage.
- 2015 - Cyclone Bansi (pictured) reached its peak strength as a very intense tropical cyclone – the highest category in the basin – to the east of Madagascar.
- 2016 - Hurricane Pali reached peak intensity to the southwest of Hawaii at a very low latitude

- 1994 - Cyclone Daisy weakens into a tropical storm as it affects Madagascar.
- 2016 - Hurricane Alex (pictured) reached its peak intensity as a Category 1 hurricane, which is one of the earliest tropical systems to form in the month of January in the Atlantic basin.
