Commons Flickr Batch Uploading is an inactive project to centralize the uploading of freely licensed sets from Flickr. The files would be assigned to a bot operator who would use Flickrripper to fulfill the request. You can also check out Commons:Batch uploading - but it also has a minimal activity

All images from https://flickr.com/photos/oregondot/ except already uploaded ones

They are of high/decent quality and with useful content and appear to be trustworthy source (If I missed problem then some of my uploads need to be deleted).

And there is very large amount of them, uploading them from my account would bury other files.

Studio Incendo is a organisation that publish news photos about Hong Kong. All photos were licensed under CC BY 4.0. A small subsets of the photos (69 out of 7,681) were already uploaded to Commons. Per Images from Studio Incendo, please add the {{Studio Incendo}} template to the uploaded files, {{CC-BY-4.0}} is not needed (since it was already included in {{Studio Incendo}}).

The Czech Pirate Party offers a large photostream (10k+ photos) of their politicians, all under CC-BY-SA 2.0 or CC-0. A little minority (and [1]) has been already uploaded. I'm not sure, if all photos meet the COM:SCOPE, but my insight is that all photos fit the scope well (there are photos of many parliament and local politicians we need). {{Personality rights}} should be added to the photos.

I propose to create a monitoring category for those files, otherwise they should be placed mostly in the category Politicians of the Czech Pirate Party.

The Flickr user Martin Cooper Ipswich has the following galleries in which most (if not all) of the images are licensed under CC-BY 2.0:

It may be possible to additionally categorize the photos based on the location. At least some of the photos are specified as having been taken in Ipswich, Suffolk, England.

Some of the photos may have embedded ICC color profiles in their JPEG metadata. For example, this photo has a "sRGB v1.31 (Canon)" profile with a Copyright (c) 2003, Canon Inc. All rights reserved. notice. It seems unclear as to whether these profiles would be copyrightable and, if they are, how the licensing of the photos would be affected.

The State Library of New South Wales has many images in Flickr Commons sets relating to WWI. Specifically: ANZAC Day, Armistice Day. These images are in the public domain (no known copyright restrictions). (See also the collaboration page WP:GLAM/SLNSW)

Suggest using {{PD-Australia}} in Category:Images from the State Library of NSW

Opinions

[edit]

Copyright is going to be fun with this set. For a lot of the images taken in Australia I'm pretty sure {{PD-Australia}} applies, but take for example this image, that's probably too recent. For the images in Europe it's going to be a even bigger puzzle.

Note that the Flickr "no known copyright restrictions" is not compatible with the precautionary principle (one of our core policies) so that is pretty useless for us I'm afraid. Multichill (talk) 16:09, 5 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

State Library of NSW can provide OTRS release for these images, the 1957 example cited above is a Sam Hood image and the Library is the copyright holder. The images taken in Europe were published in Australia, can anyone advise on their status? Please contact Aliaretiree for further information. Aliaretiree (talk) 01:32, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds great, Aliaretiree. Need help asking for the release or getting it into OTRS? The following files from the sets were already uploaded by someone else:

Collection of Tichnor Brothers postcards relating to the Army Air Force Training at what is now Edwards Air Force base. Released by the Boston Public Library. Please note that they have posted they with a CC license, but we have confirmed that they were published before 1978 with no copyright notice, so the license would need to be changed after upload. (I can do this if needed).

Please upload all the images on this page http://www.flickr.com/photos/boston_public_library/page21/ with "A.A.F.T.T.C" in the image title.

I checked the stream and all images (with usable licence) should imported IMHO, because thats a greate collection. All images I see has Rights: No known restrictions but under CC license. I think we should import them with the CC licence (in a single category) and later a bot can scan this category and replace the licence on all images that have Rights: No known restrictions in the description and maybe format the description with the given values. Thats the easiest way I guess. Other Opinions? --Slick (talk) 11:38, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Charles Francis Himes (1838-1918) travelled in 1890 to Europe by ship and shot these pictures. After his death the Dickinson College (Carlisle, PA) archived his inheritance (Details) and published the images on Flickr. In the Flickr album exist 108 pictures. They show the city of Gießen and the surroundings in a very special way. Due to its age these pics are {{PD-old-90}} and {{PD-US}}. On Flickr the pictures are licensed with "(c) Alle Rechte vorbehalten." (All rights reserved), but IMO this is copyfraud. --Emha (talk) 09:55, 13 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I like to get a second opinion about the suggested images and licences before uploading. It is not possible to import images market as not free with the "default" flickrripper-script, so we will need a special import script here. Is there anybody with knowledge about this? --Slick (talk) 10:36, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Support I suggest to use {{PD-old-auto-1923|deathyear=1918}} to make is easier for the future. Following some links from one of the Flickr image to come to the Collection Register where is stated:

  • Donation: Gift of Mary Himes Vale and Sarah Vale Rush, 1947
  • Usage: These materials have been donated without restrictions on usage.

My conclusion: Fine to upload to Commons, very valueble content! Raymond 11:02, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This is a request to upload this flickr set by João de Deus Medeiros. This set is composed as of now of 1,449 nature images. These images have a filename with their latin cientific name, as well as a description to where it was taken. Files, as far as I can tell, are licensed CC-BY-2.0. Some images were already uploaded, I'd like all files with the "right" Flickr license.

Tasks

[edit]
  1. All files need to be stripped of the "Flickr - …trialsanderrors - " prefix.
  2. All CC/Flickr licenses need to be replaced with the proper PD licenses. This might go in conjunction with categorization.
  1. All Flickr files are tagged with information about the LOC collection which might help categorizing. For instance, a tag "nclc" should go into Category:Photographs of child laborers by Lewis Hine and tagged with {{PD-NCLC}}. These tags don't seem to have been imported, and for some tags no proper Commons categories exist (for instance, Category:Performing Arts Posters for the Performing Arts Posters Collection).
(Created {{PD-VAR}} and categories, anymore need made? — raeky (talk | edits) 18:59, 16 August 2010 (UTC) )[reply]
    See below. ~ trialsanderrors (talk) 11:51, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  2. For all images, the description from Flickr need to be replaced with the descriptions from the LOC. This can be done via the static links that appear on the Flickr description behind the "This picture" link.
  3. There are about 200 duplicates of Commons uploads which need to be identified.
  4. There are a number of PD-1923 files which need to be transwikied to en.wiki and deleted.
  5. Retrieve creation/copyright year from file name or "date taken" (all file names end with the four digit year, the "date taken" info on Flickr is sometimes unreliable, but sometimes also provides month and day)
Perhaps the date can be fetched from the "Date Created/Published"-field on LOC's pages and transformed into either YYYY-MM-DD format (which is automatically translated) or in {{Other date}}-compatible format. Example with this one from here.
Either one works. The dates I posted in the title are backed by additional research, so in toto they should be more accurate (especially the photochroms), but the LOC description is clearly the default. ~ trialsanderrors (talk) 12:35, 24 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
