As tradition holds, since 2018, we've been sharing our favorite captures from the past year with each other. This year marks the sixth iteration of our beloved "Most Memorable Shot" tradition, and we're excited to see what everyone has to share.

Whether you're a member of the Commons Photographers User Group or not, you're warmly invited to participate. Your unique perspective adds to the richness of our community, and we'd love to see the world through your lens.

Hi, ErfgoedBot seems to be dead. His last edits are from 14 Mar 2024. ŠJů (talk) 21:13, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I was going to say the same thing. It hasn't updated monument list on the local wiki for almost a month. Nemoralis (talk) 19:43, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

France Photography/Wikimedia France/CH Chapter projects

[edit]

Hello,

I'm new to Wikimedia, but I've long done online educational posts on, and acted as a consultant for online projects related to Mesoamerican (Aztec, Maya etc) history and archeology. I've also attended many museum exhibits to take photos to eventually upload here into the Public Domain/CC0, and worked with other photographers in other countries so they could get photos of items I could not, also to uplpoad.

I'm reaching out because I'm interested in getting photos from the "Mexica" exhibit at the Musee Quai Branly in Paris (alongside of some items in the Quai Branly's permanent collection); and I saw you sometimes do Photography, are located in France, and have also edited the Commons:Wikimédia France project page, so you might be somebody involved with that Wikimedia chapter?

While I originally intended to just reach out to a bunch of photographers in France to inquire about getting photos, how much they'd charge for it, etc both off of Wikimedia and Photographers here on Wikimedia (and I probably still will do that), I've also noticed that Wikimedia chapters seem to fund or support travel and/or getting photographers in touch with Museums to get special photography sessions: In fact, The Wikimedia France Chapter as well as the Commons:Wikimedia CH chapter respectively have supported User:Rama and User:Sailko in the past to take photographs at the Quai Branly museum.

I'm wondering how I would get in touch with staff at either Wikimedia Chapter(s) regarding maybe setting up a project they could support to get photographs taken at the Mexica exhibit or of some of it's permanent collection? I'd be willing to pitch in, pay money etc for it as well, obviously, since I originally intended to pay a photographer to attend anyways: I don't nessacarily need the chapter to help fund anything, if I can find a photographer in France to begin with to go and I'd be compensating them: in that case I'd mainly just need their connections to get a special photography session rather then merely having the photographer attend as a general veisitor.

Apologies if I'm asking dumb questions here, as I said, I'm new, so I very well may be misunderstanding things!

MajoraZ (talk) 06:18, 6 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

MajoraZ, I was supported by Wikimedia CH to improve my photography equipment, without having to visit specific points of interest, so the images of that museum were part of my past travel, and I have already uploaded all the images I had about it. I hope this information makes nevertheless the situation clearer to you. Good luck --Sailko (talk) 14:48, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello User:Sailko , thank you for the clarification!
As an aside, would you be interested or able to visit the Pitti Palace in the Gallerie degli Uffizi to get photos of a specific object there for Wikimedia? Your page says you live in Florence, so if you're able to travel and still have access to a decent camera, i'd be open to paying you to get some photos to upload. Let me know if you're interested and if so, where/how we can communicate about it further!
Thank you,
EDIT: Actually, I see you have already uploaded a photo of the object here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Teotihuacan_(valle_del_messico),_maschera_in_onice_verde_semi-traslucida,_periodo_classico,_450-650_dc_ca._(museo_argenti,_fi).jpg !
I'll go ahead and add some categories but let me know if it's okay if edit the description and add other details about it and other pieces you've uploaded with Mesoamerican origins I have information about. On that note, i'm also curious File:Arte_messicana,_mitria_e_due_infule_in_filo_oro,_raso,_e_piume,_xvi_sec._03.jpg, File:Arte_messicana,_mitria_e_due_infule_in_filo_oro,_raso,_e_piume,_xvi_sec._02.jpg, and File:Arte_messicana,_mitria_e_due_infule_in_filo_oro,_raso,_e_piume,_xvi_sec._01.jpg are categorized correctly? You have them as part of the Tesoro dei Granduchi collection, but I don't see them on that collection on the official Pitti Palace site: https://www.uffizi.it/en/pitti-palace/treasury-of-the-grand-dukes/artworks ?
Also, still do let me know if going to get more photos of it or other objects (such as this one https://i.redd.it/7grmthyjwyhb1.jpg , also in the Palazzo Pitti) would be something you're interested in!
