Connecting schools in some of the world’s most remote communities means facing a range of obstacles: a lack of digital infrastructure, unreliable electricity, challenging terrain and high costs, among others. For governments, limited financial resources and national debt often add further strain. Addressing the sustainability of finance solutions for school infrastructure is a complex challenge. 🌍 Giga was delighted to join with Open Geneva’s talented community, seeking the bright ideas of the Swiss innovation community to address the digital connectivity gap and respond to our challenge for the Sustainable Finance Hackathon: “Financing Digital Infrastructure for Schools: Overcoming Risk to Unlock Opportunity.” This challenge called for creative thinking on how projects are financed, drawing on a diverse team from academia and industry. 👉 Watch the video to see the full story and approach taken by the team! https://lnkd.in/g782BxA3 #ConnectEverySchool #SustainableFinance #SFH24

The city of Barcelona has a digital ecosystem which has gained ground in recent years, making it one of the leading fulcrums of technology in Europe. Prominent players in this process are tech hubs, that is, business hubs with foreign capital which operate out of Barcelona to offer tech services or create digital products on a European or global scale. During our agenda at Ca l'Alier, Barcelona, we had the honor of meeting with Aleksandra Chmielewska, Partnerships Specialist at the Giga Tech Center. The energy and commitment of Giga to connect schools worldwide are truly inspiring! Aleksandra introduced the incredible Giga Maps platform (https://lnkd.in/dfzFxJHv), which enables us to visualize connected schools and identify regions still in need of coverage – an essential tool for global digital inclusion. 🌐✨ In Brazil, CIGA - Consórcio de Inovação na Gestão Pública actively supports expanding school connectivity alongside various partners, and it was thrilling to see our attending mayors pledge to take this mission even further. Mayor Emerson Maas of Mafra expressed a clear commitment to pursue 100% school connectivity monitoring in Santa Catarina, emphasizing the role of each municipality in building a digital future for our children and youth. This meeting reinforces our purpose to ensure that every student has the access they need to reach their full potential.
