Places of education should be safe havens where students learn, play and are protected. It's where their minds can inquire, explore and develop to their fullest potential. In Yemen, school-aged children represent nearly 33% of the population, yet approximately 4.5 million children did not attend school in 2023, while 2,426 schools have sustained damage or are not functioning due to use for shelter or non-educational purposes. Nine years into conflict in Yemen, displaced children and youth remain among the most vulnerable to education disruptions, with around 1.3 million coping with overcrowded classrooms and overburdened teachers. In times of crisis and displacement, education plays a pivotal role in providing a sense of stability and normalcy for children and young people. Ensuring internally displaced persons have quality education is a prerequisite for recovery and peace. With support from the #EU, UNDP Yemen works with educational and local authorities to create a safer and more inclusive learning environment, where everybody is provided with the skills to cope with life’s challenges and to better align with Yemen’s job market needs. In #Gaza, the solid waste management system has collapsed due to the war. People are living surrounded by piles of waste, causing unsanitary environments and a public health emergency. We are already providing essential support, including through the deployment of municipal waste workers and fuel monitoring, enabling the collection of 60% of waste in the southern Gaza Strip. But more support is urgently needed to scale up operations. Read more: https://go.undp.org/4Wo

Let's celebrate the incredible comeback of the tiger population! With tiger numbers up by 40% since 2010, our efforts with partners are making a real difference. Wild tigers have a crucial place in Asian landscapes and biodiversity, acting as both an umbrella and indicator species, protecting the wider ecosystem and indicating a healthy environment. Over the past 12 years, tiger populations have begun to rise in five countries – increasing for the first time in over a century. With effective, collaborative conservation, evidence shows tiger numbers can recover. As part of the solution, the Tiger Conservation Coalition (Environmental Investigation Agency, Fauna & Flora , IUCN, NATURAL STATE, PANTHERA, TRAFFIC, Global Environment Facility, Wildlife Conservation Society, Zoological Society of London (ZSL), WWF and UNDP) brings together leading biologists and experts in wildlife crime, human-wildlife coexistence, policy, finance, development and communications, with unprecedented alignment on achieving tiger conservation at scale. On #InternationalTigerDay, read about the comeback kitten and how we’re working with partners to secure their future: https://ow.ly/Xuij50SGIGX
