The CMS Hadron Outer Calorimeter (HO) is undergoing an upgrade to replace the existing photo-detectors (HPDs) with Silicon Photo Multipliers (SiPMs). The chosen device is the Hamamatsu \mbox{$3 \times 3$\,mm$^2$, 50\,$\mu$m} pitch Multi Pixel Photon Counter (MPPC).
