Evidence for deconfinement from the J/$\psi$ suppression pattern in Pb- Pb collisions by the NA50 experiment / Abreu, M C ; Alessandro, B ; Alexa, C ; Arnaldi, R ; Ataian, M R ; Baglin, C ; Baldit, A ; Bedjidian, Marc ; Beolè, S ; Boldea, V et al.
The NA50 experiment at CERN has found evidence for deconfinement in central Pb-Pb collisions at 158 A GeV/c at the CERN SPS. The anomalous (with respect to ordinary nuclear absorption) suppression of J/$\psi$ has been observed in 1995 and 1996 data and has been confirmed with the 1998 data analysis, where a detailed study of the suppression pattern vs. [...]

Drell-Yan, J/$\psi$ and $\psi^{\prime}$ production in proton-induced collisions on Be, Al, Cu, Ag and W targets has been studied by the NA50 collaboration at the CERN SPS. Results on absolute cross sections and cross section ratios are presented. [...]

Latest results from NA50 on $J/\psi$ suppression in Pb-Pb collisions at 158 GeV/c / NA50 Collaboration
The main goal of the NA50 experiment is to study the J/$\psi$ suppression pattern in Pb-Pb interactions, at 158 GeV/c per nucleon at the CERN SPS. We present here the results from the 1996 and 1998 data taking periods. [...]

The NA38 and NA50 experiments at the CERN SPS have measured charmonium production in different colliding systems with the aim of observing a phase transition from ordinary hadronic matter towards a state in which quarks and gluons are deconfined (Quark Gluon Plasma, QGP). In fact it was predicted that the J/$\psi$ yield should be suppressed in deconfined matter. [...]

Study of $J/\psi$ suppression in Pb-Pb collisions at the CERN SPS / NA50 Collaboration
We report on a search for a phase transition from ordinary nuclear matter to a state of deconfined quarks and gluons as predicted by lattice QCD calculations. One of the most clean signatures of this state of matter is predicted to be the suppression of the J/$\psi$ production. [...]

Charmonia suppression in nucleus-nucleus interactions at CERN SPS / Arnaldi, R ; Alessandro, B ; Alexa, C ; Arnaldi, R ; Atayan, M ; Baglin, C ; Baldit, A ; Bedjidian, M ; Beolè, S ; Boldea, V et al.
The NA50 experiment at CERN SPS has studied charmonium production in Pb-Pb collisions at 158 GeV/c per nucleon. According to the theoretical predictions the observation of the suppression of the $J/\psi$ production yield is expected to be an unambiguous probe for a phase transition from ordinary nuclear matter towards a state in which quarks and gluons are deconfined. Results on leptonic probes from NA50 / NA50 Collaboration
The NA50 Collaboration has performed a new measurement of the J/$\psi$ yield in Pb-Pb collisions at 158 GeV/nucleon in improved experimental conditions. Our preliminary analysis of the year 2000 data sample, while confirming the onset of anomalous suppression and the non saturation of the J/$\psi$ / Drell-Yan cross-section ratio, shows that peripheral Pb-Pb interactions follow the normal nuclear absorption pattern, which has in turn been established more precisely thanks to high statistics p-A data. Study of deconfinement in NA50 / NA50 Collaboration
The J/$\psi$ production in 158 A GeV Pb-Pb interactions is studied, in the dimuon decay channel, as a function of centrality, as measured with the electromagnetic or, alternatively, with the very forward hadronic calorimeters. After a first sharp variation at mid- centrality, both patterns continue to fall down and-exhibit a curvature change at high centrality values. [...]

The dependence of the anomalous $J/\psi$ suppression on the number of participant nucleons / NA50 Collaboration
The observation of an anomalous J/$\psi$ suppression in Pb-Pb collisions by the NA50 collaboration can be considered as the most striking indication for the deconfinement of quarks and gluons at SPS energies. In this letter, we determine the J/$\psi$ suppression pattern as a function of the forward hadronic energy $E_{ZDC}$ measured in a Zero Degree Calorimeter (ZDC). [...]

Recent results on J/$\psi$ from experiment NA50 / NA50 Collaboration
The J/$\psi$ production in Pb-Pb interactions induced by 158 GeV/c incident Pb ions is studied as a function of centrality, as estimated from the neutral transverse energy or, alternatively, from the very forward hadronic energy of the collision. The J/$\psi$ yield exhibits a similar pattern with a first drop for mid-peripheral collisions and a steady decrease for the most central reactions. [...]
