The CHORUS experiment to search for $\nu_{\mu} \rightarrow \nu_{\tau}$ oscillation / CHORUS Collaboration
A new experimental apparatus, designed principally for a high sensitivity search for $\nu_{\mu}~\rightarrow~\nu_{\tau}$ oscillation, has been successfully constructed and made operational by the CHORUS Collaboration for the CERN-WA95 experiment. It consists of a large emulsion target, a scintillating fiber tracker system with optoelectronics read-out, an air-core magnet, a set of trigger hodoscopes, a calorimeter based on the lead/scintillating-fiber technique, and a muon spectrometer. Observation of neutrino induced diffractive $D_s^{*+}$ production and subsequent decay $D_s^{*+} \to D_s^+ \to \tau^+ \to \mu^+$ / CHORUS Collaboration
We report on the first direct observation of a neutrino induced charged-current interaction with two subsequent decays of short-lived particles close to the interaction vertex. This rare double- kink signature in the CHORUS emulsion target is interpreted as a $D_s^{*+}$ production followed by the decay chain $D_s^{*+} \rightarrow D_s^+ \gamma, D_s^+ \rightarrow \tau^+ \nu_\tau ,$ \linebr eak $\tau^+\rightarrow \mu^+\nu_\mu\bar{\nu_\tau}$. Observation of weak neutral current neutrino production of $J/\psi$ / CHORUS Collaboration
Observation of \jpsi production by neutrinos in the calorimeter of the CHORUS detector exposed to the CERN SPS wide-band \numu beam is reported. A spectrum-averaged cross-section $\sigma^{\mathrm{J/\psi}}$ = (6.3 $\pm$ 3.0) $\times \mathrm{10^{-41}~cm^{2}}$ is obtained for 20 GeV $\leq E_{\nu} \leq$ 200 GeV. [...]

We describe the (2*800 kg) emulsion target in the CHORUS hybrid detector set-up for the search of nu /sub mu / to nu /sub tau / oscillations, together with the CERN pouring and processing facilities (upgraded for this purpose), and the techniques employed to treat the emulsions used as the active target in the experiment.
