Assessment of the Mechanical Properties of Ultra-High Purity Niobium after Cold Work and Heat Treatment with the HL-LHC Crab Cavities as Benchmark / Gallifa Terricabras, Adria (CERN) ; Amorim Carvalho, Alexandre (CERN) ; Aviles Santillana, Ignacio (CERN) ; Barriere, Simon (CERN) ; Calaga, Rama (CERN) ; Cano Pleite, Eduardo (CERN) ; Capatina, Ofelia (CERN) ; Crouvizier, Mickael Denis (CERN) ; Dassa, Luca (CERN) ; Meyer, Mickael Sebastien (CERN) et al.
The High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) is the upgrade of the world’s largest particle collider; it will allow the full exploitation of the LHC potential and its operation beyond 2025. An essential part of the HL-LHC project are the Crab Cavities, that are particle de-flecting SRF cavities of non-axisymmetric shape made of bulk ultra-high purity Nb. [...]

Optimizing the Manufacture of High-Purity Niobium SRF Cavities Using the Forming Limit Diagram: A Case Study of the HL-LHC Crab Cavities RFD Pole / Gallifa Terricabras, Adrià (CERN) ; Aviles Santillana, Ignacio (CERN) ; Barrière, Simon (CERN) ; Cano-Pleite, Eduardo (Carlos III U., Madrid) ; Garlasché, Marco (CERN) ; Narduzzi, Manuele (Fermilab) ; Pfeiffer, Stephan (CERN) ; Prever-Loiri, Laurent (CERN) ; Swieszek, Joanna (CERN ; U. Heidelberg (main))
The Crab Cavities are key components of the High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) project at CERN, which aims to increase the integrated luminosity of the LHC, the world’s largest particle accelerator, by a factor of ten. This paper explores the application of the Forming Limit Diagram (FLD) to enhance the manufacturing process of complex-shape Nb-based cavities, with a focus on the formability challenges experienced with the pole of the Radio Frequency Dipole (RFD) Crab Cavities. Deformability Tests of Pure Niobium / Mertinger, V ; Aviles Santillana, I ; Benke, M ; Gallifa Terricabras, A ; Hlavács, A ; Janovszky, D ; Kárpáti, V ; Krállics, Gy ; Mikó, T ; Palotás, A B et al.
A research team at the University of Miskolc’s Faculty of Materials Science and Technology has signed a cooperation agreement with the Geneva-based European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) for testing of the materials employed in the Crab Cavities will be installed in the next generation of the LHC (the so-called High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider – HL-LHC). At the University of Miskolc, high purity niobium rolling experiments were carried out in conventional (unidirectional) and cross-rolled manners in order to increase the deep drawability of the final sheet. An Insight on the Thermal and Mechanical Numerical Evaluations for the High-Luminosity LHC Crab Cavities / Cano-Pleite, Eduardo (CERN) ; Amorim Carvalho, Alexandre (CERN) ; Artoos, Kurt (CERN) ; Calaga, Rama (CERN) ; Capatina, Ofelia (CERN) ; Capelli, Teddy (CERN) ; Carra, Federico (CERN) ; Dassa, Luca (CERN) ; Garlasché, Marco (CERN) ; Leuxe, Raphael (CERN) et al.
One of the key devices of the HL-LHC project are SRF crab cavities. A cryomodule with two Double Quarter Wave (DQW) crab cavities has been successfully fabricat-ed and tested with beam at CERN whereas the Radio Frequency Dipole (RFD) crab cavities are currently on its fabrication process. [...]

Design and Prototyping of HL-LHC Double Quarter Wave Crab Cavities for SPS Test / Verdú-Andrés, S (Brookhaven) ; Skaritka, J (Brookhaven) ; Wu, Q (Brookhaven) ; Xiao, B P (Brookhaven) ; Belomestnykh, S (Brookhaven ; Stony Brook U.) ; Ben-Zv, I (Brookhaven ; Stony Brook U.) ; Alberty, L (CERN) ; Artoos, Kurt (CERN) ; Calaga, Rama (CERN) ; Capatina, Ofelia (CERN) et al.
The LHC high luminosity project envisages the use of the crabbing technique for increasing and levelling the LHC luminosity. Double Quarter Wave (DQW) resonators are compact cavities especially designed to meet the technical and performance requirements for LHC beam crabbing. [...]

Status of the HL-LHC Crab Cavity Tuner / Artoos, Kurt (CERN) ; Arnaudon, Luca (CERN) ; Calaga, Rama (CERN) ; Cano-Pleite, Eduardo (CERN) ; Capatina, Ofelia (CERN) ; Capelli, Teddy (CERN) ; Cartaxo dos Santos, Duarte (CERN) ; Garlasché, Marco (CERN) ; Glenat, David (CERN) ; Krawczyk, Artur (Cracow, INP ; CERN) et al.
The resonance frequency of the HL-LHC Double Quarter Wave (DQW) and Radio Frequency Dipole (RFD) crab cavities is set to the operating frequency of 400.79 MHz by deforming the cavities. For both types of cavities, the tuning principle foresees a symmetric mechanical deformation of parts of the cavities in vertical direction, with the tuner motor placed outside on top of the vacuum vessel.
