Development and application of a generic CFD toolkit covering the heat flows in combined solid–liquid systems with emphasis on the thermal design of HiLumi superconducting magnets / Bozza, Gennaro (CERN) ; Malecha, Ziemowit M (Wroclaw Tech. U.) ; Van Weelderen, Rob (CERN)
The main objective of this work is to develop a robust multi-region numerical toolkit for the modeling of heat flows in combined solid–liquid systems. Specifically heat transfer in complex cryogenic system geometries involving super-fluid helium. [...]

Refinement and application of a generic CFD toolkit covering the heat flows in combined solid-liquid systems to investigate thermal quench limits of superconducting magnets / Aabid, Fouad (CERN) ; van Weelderen, Rob (CERN)
The recently developed robust multiregion numerical toolkit for the modeling of heat flows in combined solid-liquid systems is extended to cover larger temperature domains, crossing the superfluid (HeII) to normal helium (HeI) phase transition, and to include NbTi cables that feature open electrical insulation, porous to superfluid helium. The aim is to probe the influence of thermal design details on the temperature margin of superconducting magnets. [...]

Preliminary Design of the HiLumi-LHC Triplet Area Beam Screen / Kersevan, R (CERN) ; Garion, C (CERN) ; Kos, N (CERN)
The so-called beam screen (BS) is a proven solution for intercepting the thermal loads caused by the circulating beams in the cryogenically-cooled sections of the LHC and minimizing dynamic vacuum effects [1]. The new triplet area foreseen for the HiLumi-LHC (HL-LHC) machine upgrade [2] has the additional feature of needing internal tungsten shields to reduce the amount of collision debris which is deflected by the high-gradient triplet magnets towards the superconducting magnets' cold masses and coils. [...]

Quench Level of the HL-LHC $Nb_3Sn$ IR Quadrupoles / Breschi, Marco (Bologna U.) ; Felcini, Enrico (Bologna U.) ; Bottura, Luca (CERN)
The scope of the Large Hadron Collider Hi-Lumi Project at CERN includes the installation of several superconducting magnets wound with $Nb_3Sn$ Rutherford cables. The quench level of these magnets (i.e. [...]

Quench Propagation in Nb$_3$Sn Rutherford Cables for the Hi-Lumi Quadrupole Magnets / Fleiter, J (CERN) ; Bordini, B (CERN) ; Ballarino, A (CERN) ; Oberli, L (CERN) ; Izquierdo, S (CERN) ; Bottura, L (CERN)
The quadrupole magnets for the LHC High Luminosity (Hi-Lumi) upgrade will be based on Nb_3Sn Rutherford cables that operate at 1.9 K and experience magnetic fields larger than 12 T. Because of the large stored energy, one of the major issues in the design of these magnets is their protection. [...]

Mechanical Comparison of Short Models of Nb$_3$ Sn Low-$\beta$ Quadrupole for the Hi-Lumi LHC / LARP Collaboration
-MQXF is the Nb3Sn Low-β quadrupole magnet that the HL-LHC project is planning to install in the LHC interaction regions in 2026 to increase the LHC integrated luminosity. The magnet will be fabricated in two different lengths: 4.2 m for MQXFA, built in the US by the Accelerator Upgrade Project (AUP), and 7.15 m for MQXFB, fabricated by CERN. [...]
