Beam-beam effects on the luminosity measurement at FCC-ee
/ Voutsinas, Georgios (CERN) ; Perez, Emmanuel (CERN) ; Dam, Mogens (Bohr Inst.) ; Janot, Patrick (CERN)
The first part of the physics programme of the integrated FCC (Future Circular Colliders) proposal includes measurements of Standard Model processes in $e^+e^-$ collisions (FCC-ee) with an unprecedented precision. In particular, the potential precision of the Z lineshape determination calls for a very precise measurement of the absolute luminosity, at the level of 1E-4, and the precision on the relative luminosity between energy scan points around the Z pole should be an order of magnitude better. Polarization and Centre-of-mass Energy Calibration at FCC-ee
/ Blondel, Alain (Geneva U. ; CERN ; Paris U., VI-VII) ; Janot, Patrick (CERN) ; Wenninger, Jörg (CERN) ; Aßmann, Ralf (DESY) ; Aumon, Sandra (CERN) ; Azzurri, Paolo (INFN, Pisa) ; Barber, Desmond P. (DESY) ; Benedikt, Michael (CERN) ; Bogomyagkov, Anton V. (Novosibirsk, IYF) ; Gianfelice-Wendt, Eliana (Fermilab) et al.
The first stage of the FCC (Future Circular Collider) is a high-luminosity electron-positron collider (FCC-ee) with centre-of-mass energy ranging from 88 to 365 GeV, to study with high precision the Z, W, Higgs and top particles, with samples of $5 \times 10^{12}$ Z bosons, $10^8$ W pairs, $10^6$ Higgs bosons and $10^6$ top quark pairs. Higgs in a box: investigating the nature of a scientific discovery
/ Woithe, Julia (CERN) ; Boselli, Margherita (CERN) ; Chatzidaki, Panagiota (CERN ; Lund U.) ; Dahlkemper, Merten Nikolay (CERN ; Gottingen U., II. Phys. Inst.) ; Duggan, Ruadh (CERN ; Utrecht U.) ; Durey, Guillaume (CERN) ; Herff, Niklas (CERN ; Dresden, Tech. The discovery of the Higgs boson by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations in 2012 concluded the longest search for a particle in the history of particle physics and was based on the largest and most complex physics experiments ever conducted, involving thousands of scientists and engineers from around the world. It provided crucial evidence for a theory developed in the 1960s that describes the existence of the invisible Brout-Englert-Higgs field and the effects of this field on the mass of elementary particles. IPAC2010 Accelerator Prize article: Particle accelerators and colliders
/ Myers, Stephen (CERN ; ADAM SA, Geneva)
In this document, I recall my own personal memories of the conception, design, construction and operation of particle accelerators and particle colliders over the past 50 years. This is not meant to be a technical report, and this is evidenced by the style of writing (commonly used first person singular), but more to give an insight to the historical beginnings and endings of some of the world’s most technically complex and expensive scientific instruments..

Sub-10 ps time tagging of electromagnetic showers with scintillating glasses and SiPMs
/ Lucchini, Marco T. (CERN) ; Benaglia, Andrea (CERN) ; Gundacker, Stefan (CERN) ; Illare, Jack (Unlisted, US, CA) ; Lecoq, Paul (CERN) ; Margaryan, Alfred A. (Unlisted, US, CA) ; Margaryan, Ashot A. (Unlisted, US, CA) ; Pauwels, Kristof (CERN) ; Auffray, Etiennette (CERN)
The high energy physics community has recently identified an $e^+e^-$ Higgs factory as one of the next-generation collider experiments, following the completion of the High Luminosity LHC program at CERN.The moderate radiation levels expected at such colliders compared to hadron colliders, enable the use of less radiation tolerant but cheaper technologies for the construction of the particle detectors. This opportunity has triggered a renewed interest in the development of scintillating glasses for the instrumentation of large detector volumes such as homogeneous calorimeters. [...]
