Electroweak production of Z bosons with forward-backward jets / Vieira de Castro Ferreira da Silva, Pedro Manuel (CERN) /CMS Collaboration
The first measurement of the electroweak production cross section of a Z boson with two jets (EWK~Zjj) in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$~TeV is discussed. Proton-proton data, recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5~fb$^{-1}$, is used to measure $\sigma({\rm EWK~Zjj})=154\pm24_{\rm stat}\pm 46_{\rm exp}\pm 27_{\rm th}\pm3_{\rm lumi}$~fb in agreement with the standard model prediction. The result establishes the basis for the more general study of vector boson fusion processes: Higgs boson searches, anomalous electroweak gauge couplings and the scattering of vector bosons..

Measurement of pure electroweak production of a Z boson in association with two forward/backward jets in proton-proton collisions at 8 TeV /CMS Collaboration
The measurement of the electroweak production cross section of a Z-boson with two foward/backward jets (EWK Zjj) in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 8$ TeV is presented based on a data sample recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC with an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb$^{-1}$. Different methods are used to extract the signal, including a data-driven approach that models the QCD Zjj background based on $\gamma$jj events. The cross section for this process is measured in di-electron and di-muon final states in the kinematic region $m_{\ell\ell} >50$ GeV, $m_{\rm jj} >120$ GeV, transverse momenta $p_{{\rm T}j} > 25$ GeV and pseudorapidity $\lvert\eta_j\rvert< 5$. The measurement, combining different methods and channels, yields $\sigma=226 \pm 26_{\rm stat} \pm 35_{\rm syst}~~{\rm fb}$, in agreement with the theoretical cross section. The hadronic activity in events with Z-boson production in association with jets is also studied, in particular in the rapidity interval between the jets..

Measurement of associated Z + charm production in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 8~\mathrm{TeV}$ /CMS Collaboration
A study of the associated production of a Z boson and one charm-quark jet (${\rm Z + c}$) in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV is presented. The analysis is conducted with a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $19.7~{\rm fb}^{-1}$, collected by the CMS detector at the CERN LHC. The Z-boson candidates are identified through their decay into a pair of electrons or muons. Jets originating from heavy flavour quarks are identified using semileptonic decays of c- or b-flavoured hadrons and hadronic decays of charm hadrons. The measurements are performed for heavy flavour jets in the kinematic region $p_{\rm T}^{{\rm jet}}>25$~GeV, ${\mid\eta^{ {\rm jet}}\mid} <2.5$. The ${\rm Z + c}$ production cross section is measured to be $\sigma({\rm pp} \rightarrow {\rm Z + c + X}) = 8.6 \pm 0.5~({\mathrm {stat.}}) \pm 0.7~({\mathrm {syst.}})~{\mathrm {pb}}$. The relative production of a Z boson and at least one c- or b-quark jet is analysed in terms of cross sections ratio. The ratio of the ${\rm Z + c}$ and ${\rm Z + b}$ production cross sections is measured to be $\sigma({\rm pp} \rightarrow {\rm Z + c + X})/\sigma({\rm pp} \rightarrow {\rm Z+b + X}) = 2.0 \pm 0.2~({\mathrm {stat.}}) \pm 0.2~({\mathrm {syst.}})$. The ${\rm Z + c}$ production cross section and the cross sections ratio are also measured differentially as a function of transverse momentum of the Z boson and of the heavy flavour jet. [...]
