Neutrons produced by 1.22 GeV antiproton interactions with nuclei / Von Egidy, T ; Figuera, P ; Galin, J ; Goldenbaum, F ; Golubeva, Y S ; Hasinoff, M D ; Hilscher, D ; Iljinov, A S ; Jahnke, U ; Krause, M et al.
Inclusive neutron energy spectra were measured by time of flight using 1.22 GeV antiprotons from LEAR, CERN, as projectiles and targets from natural Al, Cu, Ag, Ho, Ta, Au, Pb, Bi, and U. The sum of two Maxwellian distributions was fitted to the spectra d/sup 2/ sigma /(d Omega dE) obtained at several forward and backward angles yielding neutron multiplicities M/sub i/ and slope or temperature parameters T/sub i/ for the low-energy (evaporative, i=1) and high- energy (pre-equilibrium, i=2) parts, respectively. Precision and uncertainties in mass scale predictions in SUSY SO(10) with SU(2)$_{L}$ * SU(2)$_{R}$ * U(1)$_{B-L}$ * SU(3)$_{C}$ intermediate breaking / Parida, M K ; Cajee, B D ; Das, C R ; Purkayastha, B
In a class of SUSY SO(10) with SU(2)/sub L/*SU(2)/sub R/*U(1)/sub B-L /*SU(3)/sub C/ (g/sub 2L/ not= g/sub 2R/) intermediate gauge symmetry, we observe that the prediction on the unification mass (M /sub U/) is unaffected by Planck-scale-induced gravitational and intermediate-scale threshold effects, although the intermediate scale (M/sub I/) itself is subject to such corrections. In particular, without invoking the presence of additional lighter scalar degrees of freedom but including plausible and reasonable threshold effects, we find that interesting solutions for neutrino physics corresponding to M/sub I/ approximately= 10/sup 10/-10/sup 13/ GeV and M/sub U/ approximately= (5-6) * 10/sup 17/ GeV are permitted in the minimal models. Neutrino masses, lepton number violation and unification / Barbieri, Riccardo (CERN)
Theories with parity as a short-distance symmetry lead rather naturally to a small but non-vanishing nu L/sub 2/ mass. A reference formula for the size of the effect is m/sub nu / approximately=m/sup 2 //M with M a huge Majorana mass of the nu /sub R/ field, associated with the breaking of the group down to SU(3)*SU(2)*U(1) and m a typical quark mass, most likely that of charge 2/3. Local analyticity properties of the n particle scattering amplitude / Bros, J ; Epstein, H ; Glaser, Vladimir Jurko
The connected part F/sub /c(p) of the scattering amplitude (p/sub 1 /...p/sub /r mod S-1 mod p/sub r+1/,..., p/sub n/) defined on the mass shell p/sub i//sup 2/=m/sub i//sup 2/ and deduced from a local field theory involving only (stable) particles with strictly positive masses can be represented in a suitable neighbourhood of any physical point p as a finite sum f/sub /c(p)= Sigma /sub 1//sup N/F/sub i/(p) of partial amplitudes', each F/sub i/(k) analytic in a certain domain F /sub i/ of the complex mass shell k/sub i//sup 2/=m/sub i//sup 2/. Flavour-changing neutral interactions in broken supersymmetry theories / Ellis, Jonathan Richard (CERN) ; Nanopoulos, Dimitri V
The authors point out that in order to ensure an efficient 'super-GIM' suppression of flavour-changing neutral interactions, the supersymmetric partners of conventional fermions (squarks and sleptons) must be almost degenerate in mass. The strongest constraints on squark mass differences of Delta m/sub sq//sup 2//m/sub sq//sup 2 /<0(10/sup -3/) come from the K/sub 1/-K/sub 2/ mass matrix, while the non-observation of mu to e gamma imposes Delta m/sub sl//sup 2//m/sub sl//sup 2/<0(10/sup -3/) if the supersymmetric partners of the SU(2) and SU(1) bosons have masses O(100) GeV. Neutrino mixing and the m$_{W}$/m$_{Z}$ mass ratio / Frère, J M (CERN)
A comparison of neutral and charged current data according to the standard model provides bounds on neutrino mixing parameters, independently of the number of fermions. This mixing may also affect the determination of sin/sup 2/ theta and m/sub W//m/sub Z/. [...]

Peripheral p$\overline{p}$ production and decay angular distribution in the reaction $\pi^{-}p\rightarrow\p\overline{p}$n at 18.8 and 9.8 GeV / Hyams, Bernard David ; Blum, W ; Dietl, H ; Grayer, G ; Jones, C ; Koch, W ; Lorenz, E ; Luetjens, G ; Männer, W ; Meissburger, J et al.
A total of 13920 pi /sup -/p to ppn events measured in a spark chamber experiment at 9.8 GeV incident pi /sup -/ momentum are compared with data recently published on the same reaction at 18.8 GeV. The s- dependence of the total cross section, the shape of d/sup 2/ sigma /d Mdt, and the pp decay angular distributions at both energies suggest that the production process is dominated by one-pion exchange. Deuteron production in central Pb+Pb collisions at 158A GeV / NA49 Collaboration
Experimental results on deuteron emission from central Pb+Pb collisions (E/sub beam/=158A GeV, fixed target), obtained by NA49 at the CERN SPS accelerator, are presented. The transverse mass m/sub t/ distribution was measured near mid-rapidity (2.0<y<2.5) in the range of 0<m/sub t/-m/sub 0/<0.9 GeV/c/sup 2/ (0<p/sub t/<2.0 GeV/c) for the 4% most central collisions. Supersymmetric dark matter and constraints from LEP / Olive, Keith A (U. Minnesota Minneapolis ; CERN)
Accelerator constraints on the parameter space of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model are analyzed and contrasted with the parameter space yielding dark matter which is allowed by the cosmological constraints on the relic density. The most important accelerator limits are those from searches for charginos chi /sup +or-/ neutralinos chi /sub 2/ and Higgs bosons at LEP. [...]
