Training Study on Superconducting Coils of the LHC Sextupole Corrector Magnet / Bajko, M ; Calero, J ; García-Tabarés, L ; Ijspeert, Albert ; Pérez, J C ; Toral, F
A study on a single sextupole coil, working under the same conditions as the full magnet, has been made to evaluate the effect of the azimuthal pre-compression and the longitudinal pre-tension on the training of superconducting coils. A testing device has been used that allows to test individual sextupole type coils in a cryostat at 4.2 K by exerting variable pre-stresses in situ. [...]

The SMC (Short Model Coil) dipole: An R&D program for Nb$_{3}$Sn accelerator magnets / Perez, J C (CERN) ; Bajko, M (CERN) ; Bordini, B (CERN) ; Canfer, S (Rutherford) ; Ellwood, G (Rutherford) ; Feuvrier, J (CERN) ; Guinchard, M (CERN) ; Karppinen, M (CERN) ; Kokkinos, C (CERN) ; Manil, P (Saclay) et al.
The Short Model Coil (SMC) assembly has been designed, as test bench for short racetrack coils wound with Nb$_{3}$Sn cable. The mechanical structure comprises an iron yoke surrounded by a 20 mm thick aluminium alloy shell, and includes four loading pads that transmit the required pre-compression from the outer shell into the two coils. Dimensional metrology of cylinders based on digital image processing : application to LHC corrector magnets / García-Tabarés, L ; Abramian, P ; Calero, J ; Toral, F ; Ijspeert, Albert ; Pérez, J C
This paper presents the development of a method to measure relative deformations of bodies (basically cylinders) based on the analysis of images taken with a digital camera. The main application is the measurement of the deformation of the shrinking tubes of superconducting corrector magnets, which allows the calculation of the final prestress exerted to the coils. [...]
