Performance of the ALICE upgraded inner tracking system / Liu, J (Liverpool U.) /ALICE Collaboration
Major upgrades of the ALICE (A Large Ion Collider Experiment) detector are underway and will be completed during the LHC long shutdown 2 in order to start operation in 2022 for LHC run 3. One key part of this upgrade is the new Inner Tracking System (ITS2), a full silicon-pixel detector constructed entirely with CMOS monolithic active pixel sensors. [...]

Upgrade of the ALICE inner tracking system: Construction and commissioning / Fantoni, Alessandra (Frascati) /ALICE Collaboration
ALICE (A Large Ion Collider Experiment) is the CERN LHC experiment optimized for the study of the strongly interacting matter produced in heavy-ion collisions, in particular the characterization of the quark-gluon plasma. After the successful operation of the experiment during the first two runs of the LHC, the ALICE collaboration is currently working on a major upgrade of its detectors, to be installed during the 2019–2020 Long Shutdown (LS2). Results of the new MAPS-based ALICE inner tracker operations in the LHC Run 3 / Ravasenga, Ivan (CERN) /ALICE Collaboration
The new ALICE Inner Tracking System (ITS2), installed in ALICE in May 2021 during a major upgrade campaign, significantly enhances the resolution on the determination of the distance of closest approach to the primary vertex, the tracking efficiency at low transverse momenta, and the read-out rate capabilities with respect to the previous tracker. It is equipped with silicon Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors (MAPS) with a pixel size of 27 × 29 μm2, a spatial resolution of 5μm and it features a material budget of 0.36 % X0 (inner layers). [...]

ALICE ITS3: A truly cylindrical vertex detector based on bent, wafer-scale stitched CMOS sensors / Liu, Jian (Liverpool U.) /ALICE Collaboration
The new inner tracking system (ITS2) of the ALICE experiment at the LHC, upgraded during the LHC Long Shutdown 2 (2019–2021) with CMOS monolithic active pixel sensors (ALPIDE), is currently taking data and demonstrating excellent performance in the LHC Run 3. A replacement of the three innermost layers of the ITS2, called ITS3, is foreseen during the LHC Long Shutdown 3 (2026–2028) to further improve its tracking precision and efficiency, particularly at very low transverse momentum down to pT = 0.1 GeV/c. A Large Ion Collider Experiment(ALICE) at the Large Hadron Collider(LHC) at CERN will undergo a major upgrade during the 2nd LHC Long Shutdown(LS2) scheduled in 2019~2021 that will allow to study in detail of strong interaction matter Quark-Gluon Plasma(QGP) properties. To collecting more Pb-Pb events during the Run 3 and Run 4, the replacement of the existing Inner Tracking System(ITS) with a completely new ultra-light high resolution detector based on Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors(MAPS) technique is one of the cornerstones within this upgrade program. Upgrade of pixel sensor telescope for the characterization of ALPIDE sensor / Kaewjai, J (Suranaree U. of Tech.) ; Kobdaj, C (Suranaree U. of Tech.) ; Kittimanapun, K (NSRC, Nakhon Ratchasima)
A Large Ion Collider Experiment (ALICE) is an experiment station at CERN that detects quark-gluon plasma, a state of matter thought to have formed immediately after the big bang. A plan was proposed to upgrade the particle detector in the Inner Tracking System (ITS) of ALICE by 2020. [...]

Development of the ITS3: A bent-silicon vertex detector for ALICE in the LHC Run 4 / Buckland, M (U. Liverpool (main)) /ALICE Collaboration
In parallel with commissioning and installation of the second generation ALICE Inner Tracking System (ITS2), R&D; is underway to replace the innermost tracking layers of the newly installed detector during the LHC long shutdown 3 (2026–28) with a fully cylindrical, bent-silicon tracker (ITS3) to be ready for LHC Run 4 (currently scheduled to start in 2029). By thinning down the Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors (MAPS) to 20–40μm the silicon becomes flexible; using this in conjunction with sensor stitching will allow for truly cylindrical half-barrels to be produced. The ALICE Experiment has replaced its Inner Tracking System with a 7-layer pixel-only tracker made out of more than 24000 monolithic active pixel sensor chips, in order to fulfill the requirements of the physics program of the LHC Run 3. The upgraded Inner Tracking System (ITS2) has been installed in the ALICE experiment during the LHC long shutdown 2 and has started to take data with the beginning of Run 3 in July 2022, with proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13.6 TeV.
