Fermilab and CERN have a joint R&D; program with the goal of building a 5.5-m-long twin-aperture Nb$_3$Sn dipole magnet suitable for installation in the Large Hadron Collider. The first step of this program is the development of a 2-m-long single-aperture demonstration dipole with the nominal field of 11 T at the Large Hadron Collider nominal current of 11.85 kA, 60 mm bore and ~ 20% margin. Design and Fabrication of a Single-Aperture 11T Nb$_3$Sn Dipole Model for LHC Upgrades / Andreev, N (Fermilab) ; Apollinari, G (Fermilab) ; Barzi, E (Fermilab) ; Bossert, R (Fermilab) ; Nobrega, F (Fermilab) ; Novitski, I (Fermilab) ; Turrioni, D (Fermilab) ; Yamada, R (Fermilab) ; Zlobin, A V (Fermilab) ; Auchmann, B (CERN) et al.
The planned upgrade of the LHC collimation system includes additional collimators to be installed in the dispersion suppressor areas of points 2, 3 and 7. To provide the necessary longitudinal space for the collimators, a replacement of 8.33 T Nb-Ti LHC main dipoles with 11 T dipoles based on Nb3Sn superconductor compatible with the LHC lattice and main systems is being considered. Operation Experience with the LHC ACS RF System / Turaj, Katarzyna (CERN) ; Arnaudon, Luca (CERN) ; Baudrenghien, Philippe (CERN) ; Brunner, Olivier (CERN) ; Butterworth, Andrew (CERN) ; Gerigk, Frank (CERN) ; Karppinen, Mikko (CERN) ; Maesen, Pierre (CERN) ; Montesinos, Eric (CERN) ; Peauger, Franck (CERN) et al.
The LHC accelerating RF system consists of two cryomodules per beam, each containing four single-cell niobium sputtered 400.8 MHz superconducting cavities working at 4.5 K and an average accelerating voltage of 2 MV. The paper summarises the experience, availability and evolution of the system within 10 years of operation. [...]

Coil manufacturing process of the first 1-m-long Canted–Cosine–Theta (CCT) model magnet at PSI / Montenero, Giuseppe (PSI, Villigen) ; Auchmann, Bernhard (CERN ; PSI, Villigen) ; Arbelaez, Diego (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Brouwer, Lucas (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Caspi, Shlomo (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Felder, Roland (PSI, Villigen) ; Lackner, Friedrich (CERN) ; Sanfilippo, Stephane (PSI, Villigen) ; Sidorov, Serguei (PSI, Villigen) ; Smekens, David (CERN) et al.
At the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), the Canted-Cosine-Theta (CCT) magnet program aims at demonstrating that CCT technology is a viable candidate for the development of 16-T dipole magnets, required for future circular colliders. The first step in this direction is the implementation of a Nb$_3$Sn 1-m-long, two-layer CCT single-aperture dipole, referred to as Canted Dipole One (CD1), which is designed to achieve a peak field in the bore of ~11 T. Frequency-Domain Diagnosis Methods for Quality Assessment of Nb$_{3}$Sn Coil Insulation Systems and Impedance Measurement / Foussat, Arnaud (CERN) ; Grand-Clement, Ludovic (CERN) ; Smekens, David (CERN) ; Pincot, Francois Olivier (CERN) ; Bortot, Lorenzo (CERN) ; Savary, Frederic (CERN)
In recent years, the superconducting Nb$_{3}$Sn cable material became the privileged mature candidate for the high-field magnets in new projects like high-luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) accelerator at CERN, Geneva, Switzerland. The technology in 2017-2021 needs to be deployed through an unprecedented magnet series production with dedicated online quality control. [...]

Multiscale approach to the mechanical behavior of epoxy impregnated Nb$_{3}$Sn coils for the 11 T dipole / Daly, Michael (CERN) ; Loffler, Christian H (CERN) ; Smekens, David (CERN) ; Fontenla, A T (CERN) ; Sacristan De Frutos, Oscar (CERN) ; Guinchard, Michael (CERN) ; Savary, Frederic (CERN)
The superconducting 11 T dipole magnets developed at CERN for the HL-LHC project are equipped with coils manufactured from Nb$_{3}$Sn Rutherford cables and following the wind and react fabrication technique. The brittleness of the multifilamentary structure of the Nb$_{3}$Sn within the cable strands exposes the coils to permanent performance degradation when subjected to excessive strain during assembly and operation. Design and Construction of the Full-Length Prototype of the 11-T Dipole Magnet for the High Luminosity LHC Project at CERN / Savary, Frederic (CERN) ; Bordini, Bernardo (CERN) ; Fiscarelli, Lucio (CERN) ; Foussat, A P (CERN) ; Grand-Clement, Ludovic (CERN) ; Lackner, Friedrich (CERN) ; Loffler, C H (CERN) ; Semeraro, Michela (CERN) ; Smekens, David (CERN) ; Duarte Ramos, Delio (CERN) et al.
The luminosity upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN requires the installation of additional collimators in the dispersion suppressor regions of the accelerator. The upgrade foresees the installation of one additional collimator on either side of interaction point 7 (IP7) at the location of the existing main dipoles (MBs) that will be replaced by shorter and more powerful dipoles, and of one additional collimator on either side of IP2 at the location of existing empty cryostats. HIE-ISOLDE SC Linac progress and commissioning in 2016 / Venturini Delsolaro, Walter (CERN) ; Bravin, Enrico (CERN) ; Delruelle, Nicolas (CERN) ; Elias, Michal (CERN) ; Fadakis, Eleftherios (CERN) ; Ferreira Somoza, Jose (CERN) ; Formenti, Fabio (CERN) ; Fraser, Matthew (CERN) ; Gayde, Jean-Christophe (CERN) ; Guillotin, Nicolas (CERN) et al.
After the first successful physics run with radioactive ion beams at HIE ISOLDE, in October 2015 [1], the staged deployment of the linac continued in 2016 by adding a second cryomodule and by refurbishing the first one. During the physics run with one cryomodule, the second cryomodule was being assembled. [...]

FNAL and CERN are developing an 11 T Nb$_{3}$Sn dipole suitable for installation in the LHC to provide room for additional collimators. Two 1 m long collared coils previously tested at FNAL in single-aperture dipole configuration were assembled into the twin-aperture configuration and tested including magnet quench performance and field quality.
