Considerations for the VELO detector at the LHCb Upgrade II / Akiba, Kazu (Nikhef National institute for subatomic physics (NL)) ; Alexander, Michael Thomas (University of Glasgow (GB)) ; Back, John James (University of Warwick (GB)) ; Bates, Richard (University of Glasgow (GB)) ; Bertella, Claudia (University of Manchester (GB)) ; Van Beuzekom, Martin (Nikhef National institute for subatomic physics (NL)) ; Seman Bobulska, Dana (University of Glasgow (GB)) ; Boente Garcia, Oscar (Universidade de Santiago de Compostela (ES)) ; Bogdanova, Galina (M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University (RU)) ; Borghi, Silvia (University of Manchester (GB)) et al.
The LHCb experiment is planning to operate with a 7.5-fold increase in instantaneous luminosity for LHC Runs 5 and 6. The performance of the Vertex Locator detector is crucial in the event reconstruction at the increased pile-up, providing real-time information to be used in the trigger. [...]

The very forward CASTOR calorimeter of the CMS experiment / CMS Collaboration
The physics motivation, detector design, triggers, calibration, alignment, simulation, and overall performance of the very forward CASTOR calorimeter of the CMS experiment are reviewed. The CASTOR Cherenkov sampling calorimeter is located very close to the LHC beam line, at a radial distance of about 1 cm from the beam pipe, and at 14.4 m from the CMS interaction point, covering the pseudorapidity range of $-6.6 < \eta < -5.2$.
