/ Rossi, Lucio (CERN) ; Badel, Arnaud (IUT, Grenoble) ; Bajas, Hugues (CERN) ; Bajko, Marta (CERN) ; Ballarino, Amalia (CERN) ; Barth, Christian (Geneva U.) ; Betz, Ulrich (SIS GmbH) ; Bottura, Luca (CERN) ; Broggi, Francesco (LASA, Segrate) ; Chiuchiolo, Antonella (CERN) et al.
The EuCARD2 collaboration aims at the development of a 10 kA-class superconducting, high current density cable suitable for accelerator magnets, to be tested in small coils and magnets capable to deliver 3-5 T when energized in stand-alone mode, and 15-18 T when inserted in a 12-13 T background magnet. REBCO tape, assembled in a Roebel cable, was selected as conductor. [...]

EuCARD-2 is a project supported by FP7-European Commission that includes, inter alia, a work-package (WP10) called “Future Magnets.” This project is part of the long term development that CERN is launching to explore magnet technology at 16 T to 20 T dipole operating field, within the scope of a study on Future Circular Colliders. The EuCARD2 collaboration is closely liaising with similar programs for high field accelerator magnets in the USA and Japan. [...]

Advances in the Development of a 10-kA Class REBCO cable for the EuCARD2 Demonstrator Magnet
/ Badel, A. (Joseph Fourier U., ENSEIG/INPG) ; Ballarino, A. (CERN) ; Barth, C. (U. Geneva (main)) ; Bottura, L. (CERN) ; Dhalle, M.M.J. (Twente U., Enschede) ; Fleiter, J. (CERN) ; Goldacker, W. (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Himbele, J. (Joseph Fourier U., ENSEIG/INPG) ; Kario, A. (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Rossi, L. (CERN) et al.
The objective of the EuCARD2 WP10 (Future Magnets) research activity is to demonstrate HTS magnet technology for accelerator applications, by building a short demonstrator dipole with an aperture of 40 mm, operating field of 5 T, and understood field quality. One of the magnet requirements is of small inductance, for use in long magnet strings, hence the superconducting cable must have large current carrying capacity, in the range of 10 kA at the operating conditions of 4.2 K and 5 T. Task: 9.3: Linac & FF Stabilization
The future Compact LInear Collider (CLIC) currently under design at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) would create high-energy particle collisions between electrons and positrons, and provide a tool for scientists to address many of the most compelling questions about the fundamental nature of matter, energy, space and time.
