Two beam effects
/ Pieloni, T (CERN) ; Barranco, J (EPFL, Lausanne, FSL) ; Buffat, X (EPFL, Lausanne, FSL) ; White, S M (Brookhaven Natl. Lab.) ; Qiang, J (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Arduini, G (CERN) ; Metral, E (CERN) ; Mounet, N (CERN) ; Banfi, D (EPFL, Lausanne, FSL)
In this talk we propose possible scenarios for operation of beams during the
betatron squeeze, adjust and stable beam mode at 6.5 TeV energy for the 2015 LHC
physics run. The available parameter space in term of intensity, emittances,
chromaticity, octupole current, damper gain will be explored for the 25 ns bunch
spacing. [...]

Beam-beam effects long-range and head-on

The 2015 LHC run has shown the beauty of having weaker beam-beam effects with
respect to 2012 physics run. The 2015 setup has been defined to allow Landau
octupole and chromaticity to be powered at maximum currents to fight coherent
instabilities. [...]

Beam Instabilities in Hadron Synchrotrons
/ Métral, E (CERN) ; Argyropoulos, T (CERN) ; Bartosik, H (CERN) ; Biancacci, N (CERN) ; Buffat, X (CERN) ; Esteban Muller, J F (CERN) ; Herr, W (CERN) ; Iadarola, G (CERN) ; Lasheen, A (CERN) ; Li, K (CERN) et al.
Beam instabilities cover a wide range of effects in particle accelerators and they have been the subjects of intense research for several decades. As the machines performance was pushed new mechanisms were revealed and nowadays the challenge consists in studying the interplays between all these intricate phenomena, as it is very often not possible to treat the different effects separately. [...]

Impact of Long Range Beam-Beam Effects on Intensity and Luminosity Lifetimes from the 2015 LHC Run

Manchester (main)) ; Banfi, Danilo (EPFL-ISIC, Lausanne) ; Barranco, Javier (CERN) ; Bruce, Roderik (CERN) ; Buffat, Xavier (CERN) ; Muratori, Bruno (Daresbury) ; Pojer, Mirko (CERN) ; Salvachua, Belen (CERN) ; Tambasco, Claudia (EPFL-ISIC, Lausanne) et al.
Luminosity is one of the key parameters that determines the performance of colliding beams in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Luminosity can therefore be used to quantify the impact of beam-beam interactions on the beam lifetimes and emittances. [...]

The High Luminosity Challenge: Potential and Limitations of High-Intensity High-Brightness Beams in the LHC and its Injectors
/ De Maria, Riccardo (CERN) ; Arduini, Gianluigi (CERN) ; Banfi, Danilo (CERN) ; Barranco, Javier (CERN) ; Bartosik, Hannes (CERN) ; Benedetto, Elena (CERN) ; Bruce, Roderik (CERN) ; Brüning, Oliver (CERN) ; Calaga, Rama (CERN) ; Cerutti, Francesco (CERN) et al.
High-intensity and high-brightness beams are key ingredients to maximize the integrated luminosity of the LHC and exploit its full potential. This contribution will describe the optimization of the beam and machine parameters to maximize the integrated luminosity for the LHC experiments, by taking into account the expected intensity and brightness reach of the LHC and its injector chain and the capabilities of the detectors for the next run and foreseen upgrade scenarios..
