Dark Matter Effects On Neutron Star Properties / Ellis, John (NICPB, Tallinn ; King's Coll. London ; CERN) ; Hütsi, Gert (NICPB, Tallinn ; Tartu U.) ; Kannike, Kristjan (NICPB, Tallinn) ; Marzola, Luca (NICPB, Tallinn) ; Raidal, Martti (NICPB, Tallinn) ; Vaskonen, Ville (NICPB, Tallinn)
We study possible effects of a dark matter (DM) core on the maximum mass of a neutron star (NS), on the mass-radius relation and on the NS tidal deformability parameter $\Lambda$. We show that all these quantities would in general be reduced in the presence of a DM core. [...]

The EDGES 21 cm Anomaly and Properties of Dark Matter / Fraser, Sean (NICPB, Tallinn) ; Hektor, Andi (NICPB, Tallinn) ; Hütsi, Gert (NICPB, Tallinn) ; Kannike, Kristjan (NICPB, Tallinn) ; Marzo, Carlo (NICPB, Tallinn) ; Marzola, Luca (NICPB, Tallinn) ; Spethmann, Christian (NICPB, Tallinn) ; Racioppi, Antonio (NICPB, Tallinn) ; Raidal, Martti (CERN ; NICPB, Tallinn) ; Vaskonen, Ville (NICPB, Tallinn) et al.
The recently claimed anomaly in the measurement of the 21 cm hydrogen absorption signal by EDGES at $z\sim 17$, if cosmological, requires the existence of new physics. The possible attempts to resolve the anomaly rely on either (i) cooling the hydrogen gas via new dark matter-hydrogen interactions or (ii) modifying the soft photon background beyond the standard CMB one, as possibly suggested also by the ARCADE~2 excess. Search for Dark Matter Effects on Gravitational Signals from Neutron Star Mergers / Ellis, John (NICPB, Tallinn ; CERN ; King's Coll. London) ; Hektor, Andi (NICPB, Tallinn) ; Hütsi, Gert (NICPB, Tallinn ; Tartu Observ.) ; Kannike, Kristjan (NICPB, Tallinn) ; Marzola, Luca (NICPB, Tallinn) ; Raidal, Martti (NICPB, Tallinn) ; Vaskonen, Ville (NICPB, Tallinn)
Motivated by the recent detection of the gravitational wave signal emitted by a binary neutron star merger, we analyse the possible impact of dark matter on such signals. We show that dark matter cores in merging neutron stars may yield an observable supplementary peak in the gravitational wave power spectral density following the merger, which could be distinguished from the features produced by the neutron components..

The Higgs of the Higgs and the diphoton channel / Kannike, Kristjan (NICPB, Tallinn) ; Pelaggi, Giulio Maria (Pisa U. ; INFN, Pisa) ; Salvio, Alberto (CERN) ; Strumia, Alessandro (NICPB, Tallinn ; Pisa U. ; INFN, Pisa ; CERN)
LHC results do not confirm conventional natural solutions to the Higgs mass hierarchy problem, motivating alternative interpretations where a hierarchically small weak scale is generated from a dimension-less quantum dynamics. We propose weakly and strongly-coupled models where the field that breaks classical scale invariance giving mass to itself and to the Higgs is identified with a possible new resonance within the LHC reach. One or more Higgs bosons? / Barbieri, Riccardo (Pisa, Scuola Normale Superiore ; INFN, Pisa) ; Buttazzo, Dario (Pisa, Scuola Normale Superiore ; INFN, Pisa ; CERN) ; Kannike, Kristjan (Pisa, Scuola Normale Superiore ; INFN, Pisa ; NICPB, Tallinn) ; Sala, Filippo (Pisa, Scuola Normale Superiore ; INFN, Pisa ; LBNL, Berkeley) ; Tesi, Andrea (Pisa, Scuola Normale Superiore ; INFN, Pisa)
Now that one has been found, the search for signs of more scalars is a primary task of current and future experiments. In the motivated hypothesis that the extra Higgs bosons of the next-to-minimal supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM) be the lightest new particles around, we outline a possible overall strategy to search for signs of the CP-even states. A New Boson with a Mass of 125 GeV Observed with the CMS Experiment at the Large Hadron Collider / CMS Collaboration
The Higgs boson was postulated nearly five decades ago within the framework of the standard model of particle physics and has been the subject of numerous searches at accelerators around the world. Its discovery would verify the existence of a complex scalar field thought to give mass to three of the carriers of the electroweak force—the W+, W–, and Z0 bosons—as well as to the fundamental quarks and leptons. We perform a state-of-the-art global fit to all Higgs data. We synthesise them into a 'universal' form, which allows to easily test any desired model. [...]

Observation of a new boson at a mass of 125 GeV with the CMS experiment at the LHC / CMS Collaboration
Results are presented from searches for the standard model Higgs boson in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=7 and 8 TeV in the CMS experiment at the LHC, using data samples corresponding to integrated luminosities of up to 5.1 inverse femtobarns at 7 TeV and 5.3 inverse femtobarns at 8 TeV. The search is performed in five decay modes: $\gamma\gamma$, ZZ, WW, $\tau^+ \tau^-$, and $b\bar{b}$. [...]

Is the resonance at 125 GeV the Higgs boson? / Giardino, Pier Paolo (Pisa U. ; INFN, Pisa) ; Kannike, Kristjan (Pisa, Scuola Normale Superiore ; INFN, Pisa ; NICPB, Tallinn) ; Raidal, Martti (NICPB, Tallinn ; CERN ; Tartu, Inst. Phys.) ; Strumia, Alessandro (Pisa U. ; INFN, Pisa ; NICPB, Tallinn)
The recently discovered resonance at 125 GeV has properties remarkably close to those of the Standard Model Higgs boson. We perform model-independent fits of all presently available data. [...]

Reconstructing Higgs boson properties from the LHC and Tevatron data / Giardino, Pier Paolo (Pisa U. ; INFN, Pisa) ; Kannike, Kristjan (Pisa, Scuola Normale Superiore ; INFN, Pisa) ; Raidal, Martti (NICPB, Tallinn ; CERN ; Tartu, Inst. We perform a phenomenological fit to all ATLAS, CMS, CDF and D0 Higgs boson data available after Moriond 2012. We allow all Higgs boson branching fractions, its couplings to standard model particles, as well as to an hypothetical invisible sector to vary freely, and determine their current favourite values.
