Education

The DW traineeship is like a journey around the world in 18 months. Internships in specialized editorial offices provide insights into business, science, culture, news or sports. Whether it’s Chinese, Farsi, Spanish or other languages, trainees – according to their language skills – work and learn in the editorial offices of DW’s various media channels and help produce podcasts for television and radio. Practical seminars are at the heart of the training.

The International Media Studies (IMS) program is designed for prospective students from all over the world aiming to work in senior positions in the journalism field or communication sector. The English-language Master’s program is for young journalists and media managers from radio, TV, online and print media, and for communication experts.

The four-semester full-time course combines the disciplines of media and development, journalism, and communication and media management. IMS is a joint project of the University of Bonn, Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences and DW Akademie.

The French language Master’s degree program in international journalism (MFJI) is a joint initiative of DW Akademie and the University of Tours in France. Students of the two-year program graduate with a Master’s degree in journalism. They spend their first year at DW Akademie in Bonn and then continue their studies in Tours. Students conclude the program with an internship in their home country.

The MFJI is particularly aimed at media professionals from francophone countries that are partners of German development cooperation in North and West Africa. The countries include Tunisia, Morocco, Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal and Burkina Faso.
