Validation of e$^+$e$^-$ Pair Production Total Cross Sections for Monte Carlo Particle Transport / Basaglia, Tulio (CERN) ; Begalli, Marcia (Rio de Janeiro State U.) ; Choi, Chansoo (Hanyang U.) ; Han, Min Cheol (Yonsei U.) ; Hoff, Gabriela (INFN, Genoa) ; Kim, Chan Hyeong (Hanyang U.) ; Pia, Maria Grazia (INFN, Genoa) ; Saracco, Paolo (INFN, Genoa)
Several sources of total cross sections for e$^+$e$^-$ pair production by photon interaction with matter, used by major Monte Carlo codes for particle transport, are quantitatively evaluated with respect to experimental measurements collected from the literature. They include data libraries deriving from theoretical calculations and analytical formulae representing empirical fits to tabulations. [...]

Study of impact ionization coefficients in silicon with Low Gain Avalanche Diodes / Curras Rivera, Esteban (CERN) ; Moll, Michael (CERN)
Impact ionization in silicon devices has been extensively studied and several models for a quantitative description of the impact ionization coefficients have been proposed. We evaluate those models against gain measurements on Low Gain Avalanche diodes (LGADs) and derive new parameterizations for the impact ionization coefficients optimized to describe a large set of experimental data. [...]

A Metallurgical Inspection Method to Assess the Damage in Performance-Limiting Nb3Sn Accelerator Magnet Coils / LARP Collaboration
The design and production of Nb3Sn-based dipole and quadrupole magnets is critical for the realization of the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). Nb3Sn superconducting coils are aimed at enhancing the bending and focusing strengths of accelerator magnets for HL-LHC and beyond. [...]

(CERN)
The application of high-temperature superconductors to accelerator magnets for future particle colliders is under study. Numerical methods are crucial for an accurate evaluation of the complex dynamical behavior of the magnets, especially concerning the magnetic field quality and thermal behavior. [...]

The ReadoutCard Userspace Driver for the New Alice $O^2$ Computing System / Alexopoulos, Konstantinos (CERN) ; Costa, Filippo (CERN) /ALICE Collaboration
The ALICE (A Large Ion Collider Experiment) experiment focuses on the study of the quark-gluon plasma as a product of heavy-ion collisions at the CERN LHC (Large Hadron Collider). During the Long Shutdown 2 of the LHC in 2019-2020, a major upgrade is underway in order to cope with a hundredfold input data rate increase with peaks of up to 3.4 TB/s. [...]

A reconfigurable neural network ASIC for detector front-end data compression at the HL-LHC / Di Guglielmo, Giuseppe (Columbia U.) ; Fahim, Farah (Fermilab ; Northwestern U.) ; Herwig, Christian (Fermilab) ; Valentin, Manuel Blanco (Northwestern U.) ; Duarte, Javier (UC, San Diego) ; Gingu, Cristian (Fermilab) ; Harris, Philip (MIT) ; Hirschauer, James (Fermilab) ; Kwok, Martin (Brown U.) ; Loncar, Vladimir (CERN ; Belgrade, Inst. Phys.) et al.
Despite advances in the programmable logic capabilities of modern trigger systems, a significant bottleneck remains in the amount of data to be transported from the detector to off-detector logic where trigger decisions are made. We demonstrate that a neural network autoencoder model can be implemented in a radiation tolerant ASIC to perform lossy data compression alleviating the data transmission problem while preserving critical information of the detector energy profile.
