Spark Activity Monitoring for LHC Beam Dump System / Durmus, Can Berk (CERN) ; Carlier, Etienne (CERN) ; Magnin, Nicolas (CERN) ; Mottram, Timothy (CERN) ; Senaj, Viliam (CERN)
LHC Beam Dump System is composed of 25 fast-pulsed magnets per beam to extract and dilute the beam onto an external absorber block. Each magnet is powered by a high voltage generator to discharge the energy stored in capacitors into the magnet by using high voltage switches. [...]

Consolidation of Re-Triggering System of LHC Beam Dumping System at CERN / Magnin, Nicolas (CERN) ; Bartmann, Wolfgang (CERN) ; Bracco, Chiara (CERN) ; Carlier, Etienne (CERN) ; Gräwer, Gregor (CERN) ; Mottram, Timothy (CERN) ; Renner, Elisabeth (CERN) ; Rodziewicz, Janusz (CERN) ; Senaj, Viliam (CERN) ; Wiesner, Christoph (CERN)
The Trigger Synchronization and Distribution System (TSDS) is a core part of the LHC Beam Dump System (LBDS). It comprises redundant Re-Trigger Lines (RTLs) that allow fast re-triggering of all high-voltage pulsed generators in case one self-triggers, resulting in a so-called asynchronous dump. [...]

SPS Beam Dump System (SBDS) Commissioning After Relocation and Upgrade / Van Trappen, Pieter (CERN) ; Carlier, Etienne (CERN) ; Ducimetière, Laurent (CERN) ; Namora, Vasco (CERN) ; Senaj, Viliam (CERN) ; Velotti, Francesco (CERN) ; Voumard, Nicolas (CERN)
In order to overcome several machine limitations, the SBDS has been relocated from LSS1 (Long Straight Section 1) to LSS5 during LS2 (Long Shutdown 2) with an important upgrade of the extraction kicker installation. An additional vertical deflection kicker magnet (MKDV) was produced and installed while the high voltage (HV) pulse generators have been upgraded by changing gas-discharge switches (thyratrons and ignitrons) to semiconductor stacks operating in oil. Upgrade of the Dilution System for HL-LHC / Wiesner, Christoph (CERN) ; Bartmann, Wolfgang (CERN) ; Bracco, Chiara (CERN) ; Calviani, Marco (CERN) ; Carlier, Etienne (CERN) ; Ducimetière, Laurent (CERN) ; Frankl, Matthias (CERN) ; Fraser, Matthew (CERN) ; Gilardoni, Simone (CERN) ; Goddard, Brennan (CERN) et al.
The LHC Beam Dump System is one of the most critical systems for reliable and safe operation of the LHC. A dedicated dilution system is required to sweep the beam over the front face of the graphite dump core in order to reduce the deposited energy density. [...]

Optimization of the FCC-hh Beam Extraction System Regarding Failure Avoidance and Mitigation / Renner, Elisabeth (CERN ; TU Vienna) ; Barnes, Michael (CERN) ; Bartmann, Wolfgang (CERN) ; Burkart, Florian (CERN) ; Carlier, Etienne (CERN) ; Ducimetière, Laurent (CERN) ; Goddard, Brennan (CERN) ; Kramer, Thomas (CERN) ; Lechner, Anton (CERN) ; Magnin, Nicolas (CERN) et al.
A core part of the Future Circular Collider (FCC) study is a high energy hadron-hadron collider with a circumference of nearly 100~km and a center of mass beam energy of 100~TeV. The energy stored in one beam at top energy is 8.3~GJ, more than 20 times that of the LHC beams. [...]

Machine protection aspects of high-voltage flashovers of the LHC beam dump dilution kickers / Wiesner, Christoph (CERN) ; Bartmann, Wolfgang (CERN) ; Bracco, Chiara (CERN) ; Calviani, Marco (CERN) ; Carlier, Etienne (CERN) ; Ducimetière, Laurent (CERN) ; Frankl, Matthias (CERN) ; Fraser, Matthew (CERN) ; Gilardoni, Simone (CERN) ; Goddard, Brennan (CERN) et al.
The LHC Beam Dump System is required to safely dispose of the energy of the stored beam. In order to reduce the energy density deposited in the beam dump, a dedicated dilution system is installed. [...]

LHC Beam Dump Performance in View of the High Luminosity Upgrade / Wiesner, Christoph (CERN) ; Bartmann, Wolfgang (CERN) ; Bracco, Chiara (CERN) ; Carlier, Etienne (CERN) ; Ducimetière, Laurent (CERN) ; Frankl, Matthias (CERN) ; Fraser, Matthew (CERN) ; Goddard, Brennan (CERN) ; Kramer, Thomas (CERN) ; Lechner, Anton (CERN) et al.
The High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) project will increase the total beam intensity in the LHC by nearly a factor of two. Analysis and follow-up of recent operational issues as well as dedicated studies of the LHC Beam Dump System (LBDS) have been carried out to ensure the safe operation with HL-LHC parameters and to decide on possible hardware upgrades to meet the HL-LHC requirements. Asynchronous Beam Dump Tests at LHC / Wiesner, Christoph (CERN) ; Bartmann, Wolfgang (CERN) ; Bracco, Chiara (CERN) ; Carlier, Etienne (CERN) ; Ducimetière, Laurent (CERN) ; Frankl, Matthias (CERN) ; Fraser, Matthew (CERN) ; Goddard, Brennan (CERN) ; Heßler, Christoph (CERN) ; Kramer, Thomas (CERN) et al.
The detailed understanding of the beam-loss pattern in case of an asynchronous beam dump is essential for the safe operation of the future High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) with nearly twice the nominal LHC beam intensity, leading to correspondingly higher energy deposition on the protection elements. An asynchronous beam dump is provoked when the rise time of the extraction kickers is not synchronized to the 3 us long particle-free abort gap. [...]

Considerations on an Upgrade Possibility of the LHC Beam Dump Kicker System / Fraser, Matthew (CERN) ; Bartmann, Wolfgang (CERN) ; Bracco, Chiara (CERN) ; Ducimetière, Laurent (CERN) ; Goddard, Brennan (CERN) ; Kramer, Thomas (CERN) ; Senaj, Viliam (CERN)
The LHC Beam Dump System (LBDS) is designed to safely dispose the circulating beams over a wide range of energy from 450 GeV up to 7 TeV, where the maximum stored energy is 362 MJ per beam. One of the most critical components of the LBDS are the extraction kickers that must reliably switch on within the 3 us particle-free abort gap. [...]
