Unravelling the JPMorgan spoofing case using particle physics visualization methods / Debie, Philippe (Wageningen U.) ; Gardebroek, Cornelis (Wageningen U.) ; Hageboeck, Stephan (CERN) ; van Leeuwen, Paul (Unlisted, NL) ; Moneta, Lorenzo (CERN) ; Naumann, Axel (CERN) ; Pennings, Joost M E (Wageningen U. ; Maastricht U. ; Illinois U., Urbana) ; Trujillo‐Barrera, Andres A (Idaho U.) ; Verhulst, Marjolein E (Wageningen U.)
On 29 September 2020, JPMorgan was ordered to pay a settlement of $920.2 million for spoofing the metals and Treasury futures markets from 2008 to 2016. We examine these cases using a visualization method developed in particle physics (CERN) and the messages that the exchange receives about market activity rather than time-based snapshots. [...]

We introduce a methodology to visualize the limit order book (LOB) using a particle physics lens. Open-source data-analysis tool ROOT, developed by CERN, is used to reconstruct and visualize futures markets. [...]

The Analysis of High-Frequency Finance Data using ROOT / Debie, P (Wageningen U.) ; Verhulst, M E (Wageningen U.) ; Pennings, J M E (Maastricht U. ; Illinois U., Urbana) ; Tekinerdogan, B (Wageningen U.) ; Catal, C (Texas A&M; U. High-frequency financial market data is conceptually distinct from high energy physics (HEP) data. Market data is a time series generated by market participants, while HEP data is a set of independent events generated by collisions between particles. [...]

CXCL$_{10}$ Is a Circulating Inflammatory Marker in Patients with Advanced Heart Failure: a Pilot Study / Altara, Raffaele (Cardiovascular Research Institute Maastricht, Netherlands ; University of Mississippi Medical Center) ; Manca, Marco (CERN) ; Hessel, Marleen H (Leiden U.) ; Gu, Yumei (Leuven U. ; KU Leuven, FET) ; van Vark, Laura C (Erasmus MC Thoraxcenter, Rotterdam) ; Akkerhuis, K Martijn (Erasmus MC Thoraxcenter, Rotterdam) ; Staessen, Jan A (Leuven U. ; KU Leuven, FET) ; Struijker-Boudier, Harry A J (Cardiovascular Research Institute Maastricht, Netherlands) ; Booz, George W (University of Mississippi Medical Center) ; Blankesteijn, W Matthijs (Cardiovascular Research Institute Maastricht, Netherlands)
Chemokines are involved in the remodeling of the heart; however, their significance as biomarkers in heart failure is unknown. We observed that circulating CXCR3 receptor chemokines CXCL9 and CXCL10 in a rat model of heart failure were increased 1 week after myocardial infarction [...]

Broadband Multi-wavelength Properties of M87 during the 2018 EHT Campaign including a Very High Energy Flaring Episode / Event Horizon Telescope Multi-wavelength Science Collaboration
The nearby elliptical galaxy M87 contains one of the only two supermassive black holes whose emission surrounding the event horizon has been imaged by the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT). In 2018, more than two dozen multi-wavelength (MWL) facilities (from radio to gamma-ray energies) took part in the second M87 EHT campaign. [...]

A Triangle Singularity as the Origin of the $a_1(1420)$ / Alexeev, G.D. (Dubna, JINR) ; Alexeev, M.G. (Turin U. ; INFN, Turin) ; Amoroso, A. (Turin U. ; INFN, Turin) ; Andrieux, V. (Aveiro U.) ; Badełek, B. (Warsaw U.) et al.
The COMPASS experiment recently discovered a new isovector resonance-like signal with axial-vector quantum numbers, the $a_1(1420)$, decaying to $f_0(980)\pi$. With a mass too close to and a width smaller than the axial-vector ground state $a_1(1260)$, it was immediately interpreted as a new light exotic meson, similar to the $X$, $Y$, $Z$ states in the hidden-charm sector. Search for muoproduction of $X (3872)$ at COMPASS and indication of a new state $\widetilde{X}(3872)$ / COMPASS Collaboration
We have observed exclusive production of the exotic $X(3872)$ hadron in the reaction $\mu^+~N \rightarrow \mu^+ (J\!/\!\psi\pi^+\pi^-)\pi^{\pm}~N'$ using COMPASS data collected with incoming muons of 160~GeV/$c$ and 200~GeV/$c$ momentum. The statistical significance of the $X(3872)$ signal is 6$\sigma$. [...]

Longitudinal double-spin asymmetry $A_1^{\rm p}$ and spin-dependent structure function $g_1^{\rm p}$ of the proton at small values of $x$ and $Q^2$ / COMPASS Collaboration
We present a precise measurement of the proton longitudinal double-spin asymmetry $A_1^{\rm p}$ and the proton spin-dependent structure function $g_1^{\rm p}$ at photon virtualities $0.006~({\rm GeV}/c)^2<Q^2 < 1~({\rm GeV}/c)^2$ in the Bjorken $x$ range of $4 \times 10^{-5} < x < 4 \times 10^{-2}$. The results are based on data collected by the COMPASS Collaboration at CERN using muon beam energies of $160~{\rm GeV}$ and $200~{\rm GeV}$. [...]
