Radioactive source calibration test of the CMS Hadron Endcap Calorimeter test wedge with Phase I upgrade electronics / Bilki, B (Iowa U.) ; Sirunyan, A M (Yerevan Phys. Inst.) ; Tumasyan, A (Yerevan Phys. The Phase I upgrade of the CMS Hadron Endcap Calorimeters consists of new photodetectors (Silicon Photomultipliers in place of Hybrid Photo-Diodes) and front-end electronics. The upgrade will eliminate the noise and the calibration drift of the Hybrid Photo-Diodes and enable the mitigation of the radiation damage of the scintillators and the wavelength shifting fibers with a larger spectral acceptance of the Silicon Photomultipliers. Dose rate effects in the radiation damage of the plastic scintillators of the CMS Hadron Endcap Calorimeter / CMS-HCAL collaboration
We present measurements of the reduction of light output by plastic scintillators irradiated in the CMS detector during the 8 TeV run of the Large Hadron Collider and show that they indicate a strong dose rate effect. The damage for a given dose is larger for lower dose rate exposures. [...]

Brightness and uniformity measurements of plastic scintillator tiles at the CERN H2 test beam / CMS-HCAL Collaboration
We study the light output, light collection efficiency and signal timing of a variety of organic scintillators that are being considered for the upgrade of the hadronic calorimeter of the CMS detector. The experimental data are collected at the H2 test-beam area at CERN, using a 150 GeV muon beam. [...]

Combination of the W boson polarization measurements in top quark decays using ATLAS and CMS data at $\sqrt{s} = $ 8 TeV / CMS Collaboration
The combination of measurements of the W boson polarization in top quark decays performed by the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations is presented. The measurements are based on proton-proton collision data produced at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV, and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 20 fb$^{-1}$ for each experiment. Strategies and performance of the CMS silicon tracker alignment during LHC Run 2 / CMS Collaboration
The strategies for and the performance of the CMS silicon tracking system alignment during the 2015-2018 data-taking period of the LHC are described. The alignment procedures during and after data taking are explained. [...]

Proton reconstruction with the CMS-TOTEM Precision Proton Spectrometer / CMS and TOTEM Collaboration
The Precision Proton Spectrometer (PPS) of the CMS and TOTEM experiments collected 107.7 fb$ ^{-1} $ in proton-proton (pp) collisions at the LHC at 13 TeV (Run 2). This paper describes the key features of the PPS alignment and optics calibrations, the proton reconstruction procedure, as well as the detector efficiency and the performance of the PPS simulation. Nuclear modification of $\Upsilon$ states in pPb collisions at $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV / CMS Collaboration
Production cross sections of $\Upsilon$(1S), $\Upsilon$(2S), and $\Upsilon$(3S) states decaying into ${\mu^{+}\mu^{-}}$ in proton-lead (pPb) collisions are reported using data collected by the CMS experiment at ${\sqrt {\smash [b]{s_{_{\mathrm {NN}}}}}} = $ 5.02 TeV. A comparison is made with corresponding cross sections obtained with pp data measured at the same collision energy and scaled by the Pb nucleus mass number. [...]

Search for high-mass resonances decaying to a jet and a Lorentz-boosted resonance in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = $ 13 TeV / CMS Collaboration
A search is reported for high-mass hadronic resonances that decay to a parton and a Lorentz-boosted resonance, which in turn decays into a pair of partons. The search is based on data collected with the CMS detector at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = $ 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb$^{-1}$. [...]
