Systematic optics studies for the commissioning of the AWAKE electron beamline / Bracco, Chiara (CERN) ; Aiba, Masamitsu (PSI, Villigen) ; Goddard, Brennan (CERN) ; Gorgisyan, Ishkhan (CERN) ; Turner, Marlene (CERN) ; Velotti, Francesco (CERN) ; Verra, Livio (CERN)
The commissioning of the AWAKE electron beam line was successfully completed in 2018. Despite a modest length of about 15 m, this low-energy line is quite complex and several iterations were needed before finding satisfactory agreement between the model and the measurements. [...]

Calibration of the AWAKE electron spectrometer with electrons derived from a partially stripped ion beam / Cooke, David (University Coll. London) ; Alemany-Fernández, Reyes (CERN) ; Bauche, Jeremie (CERN) ; Cascella, Michele (University Coll. London) ; Chappell, James (University Coll. London) ; Gorgisyan, Ishkhan (CERN) ; Gschwendtner, Edda (CERN) ; Jolly, Simon (University Coll. London) ; Kain, Verena (CERN) ; Keeble, Fearghus (University Coll. London) et al.
The electron spectrometer for the Advanced Wakefield (AWAKE) experiment at CERN has been tested using an electron beam derived from partially-stripped ions accelerated in the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS). The remaining electrons are stripped by passage of the beam through a thin screen upstream from the spectrometer, and using knowledge of the ion beam charge and energy, models of the spectrometer response could be verified..

The CERN Linear Accelerator for Research (CLEAR) at CERN is a test facility using a 200 MeV electron beam. In 2020 and 2021, a few hardware upgrades were done: comparators for position measurements were added on components, the in-air experimental area was re-arranged in order to provide more space, a robotic system was built to enable remote samples manipulations for irradiation studies, the BPM reading system was optimized and the laser double-bunch system implemented to allow for a doubling of the electron bunch frequency from 1.5 GHz to 3 GHz.
