A Response Matrix Approach to Skew-Sextupole Correction in the LHC at Injection / Waagaard, Elias (CERN ; Uppsala U. (main)) ; Maclean, Ewen (CERN)
To date, no dedicated attempt has been made to correct the skew-sextupole (𝑎3 ) 3𝑄𝑦 resonance in the LHC at injection. This topic has recently gained interest, following investigation of the emittance growth during the LHC energy ramp due to third-order islands. [...]

Overview of the Machine Learning and Numerical Optimiser Applications on Beam Transfer Systems for LHC and Its Injectors / Velotti, Francesco (CERN) ; Barnes, Michael (CERN) ; Carlier, Etienne (CERN) ; Dutheil, Yann (CERN) ; Fraser, Matthew (CERN) ; Goddard, Brennan (CERN) ; Magnin, Nicolas (CERN) ; Ramjiawan, Rebecca (CERN) ; Renner, Elisabeth (CERN) ; Van Trappen, Pieter (CERN) et al.
Machine learning and numerical optimisation algorithms are getting more and more popular in the accelerator physics community and, thanks to the computing power available, their application in daily operation more likely. In the CERN accelerator complex, and specifically on the beam transfer systems, many promising exploitation of these numerical tools have been put in place in the last years. [...]

Beam-Based Measurement of Skew-Sextupole Errors in the CERN Proton Synchrotron / Horney, Sasha (CERN ; Bristol U.) ; Huschauer, Alexander (CERN) ; Maclean, Ewen (CERN)
During Proton Synchrotron (PS) commissioning in 2021, large beam losses were observed when crossing the 3Qy resonance if the Beam Gas Ionization (BGI) profile monitor was enabled. This indicated the presence of a strong skew-sextupole source in this instrument. [...]

Exploring Space Charge and Intra-beam Scattering Effects in the CERN Ion Injector Chain / Waagaard, Elias (CERN) ; Bartosik, Hannes (CERN)
As of today, the LHC ion physics programme is mostly based on Pb ion collisions. The ALICE3 detector proposal requests significantly higher nucleon-nucleon luminosities, as compared to today¿s operation. [...]

The 2023 run has been decisive for the LHC Ion Injector Complex. It demonstrated the capability of producing full trains of momentum slip stacked lead ions in the SPS. [...]

Corrections of Feed-Down of Non-Linear Field Errors in LHC and HL-LHC Insertion Regions / Dilly, Joschua (CERN ; Humboldt U., Berlin) ; Maclean, Ewen H (CERN) ; Tomás García, Rogelio (CERN)
The optics in the insertion regions of the LHC and its upgrade project the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) are very sensitive to local magnetic errors, due to the extremely high beta-functions present. In collision optics, the non-zero closed orbit in the same region leads to a "feed-down" of high-order errors to lower orders, causing additional effects detrimental to beam lifetime. [...]

Resonance Compensation for High Intensity and High Brightness Beams in the CERN PSB / Asvesta, Foteini (CERN) ; Albright, Simon (CERN) ; Antoniou, Fanouria (CERN) ; Bartosik, Hannes (CERN) ; Bracco, Chiara (CERN) ; Di Giovanni, Gian Piero (CERN) ; Maclean, Ewen (CERN) ; Mikulec, Bettina (CERN) ; Prebibaj, Tirsi (CERN ; Goethe U., Frankfurt (main)) ; Renner, Elisabeth (CERN ; TU Vienna)
Resonance studies have been conducted during the recommissioning of the CERN Proton Synchrotron Booster (PSB) following the implementation of the LHC Injectors Upgrade (LIU) project. In particular, resonance identification through so-called loss maps has been applied on all four rings of the PSB, revealing various resonances up to fourth order. [...]

Amplitude Dependent Closest Tune Approach Generated by Normal and Skew Octupoles / Maclean, Ewen (CERN) ; Persson, Tobias (CERN) ; Tomás, Rogelio (CERN)
Amplitude dependent closest tune approach, an action dependent analogue of the $|Delta Q_{min}$ generated by linear coupling, was observed in the LHC in 2012. It restricts the accessible resonance free area of the tune diagram and by altering tune spread has the potential to impact upon Landau damping. [...]

Commissioning of the nonlinear optics at injection in the LHC was carried out for the first time in 2015 via beam-based methods. Building upon studies performed during Run I, corrections to the nonlinear chromaticity and detuning with amplitude were obtained. [...]

Controlling Landau Damping via Feed-Down From High-Order Correctors in the LHC and HL-LHC / Dilly, Joschua (CERN ; Humboldt U., Berlin) ; Maclean, Ewen (CERN) ; Tomás García, Rogelio (CERN)
Amplitude detuning measurements in the LHC have shown that a significant amount of detuning is generated in Beam 1 via feed-down from decapole and dodecapole field errors in the triplets of the experiment insertion regions, while in Beam 2 this detuning is negligible. In this study, we investigate the cause of this behavior and we attempt to find corrections that use the feed-down from the nonlinear correctors in the insertion region for amplitude detuning..
