Progress in Developing Hybrid RPCs: GEM-like Detectors with Resistive Electrodes / Fonte, P. (Coimbra Inst. Sup. Eng. ; LIP, Coimbra) ; Martinengo, P. (CERN) ; Nappi, E. (INFN, Bari) ; Oliveira, R. (CERN) ; Peskov, V. (CERN ; Paris, Ecole des Mines)
We have recently developed an innovative detector of photons and charged particles: a GEM-like gaseous amplification structure with resistive electrodes instead of commonly used metallic ones. This novel detector combines the best property of GEMs- the capability to operate in a cascaded mode and in poorly quenched gases - and of RPC: the protection against sparks. [...]

Developments and the preliminary tests of Resistive GEMs manufactured by a screen printing technology / Clark, B. (North Carolina State U.) ; Agocs, A.G. (Eotvos U.) ; Oliveira, R. (CERN) ; Peskov, V. (CERN ; St. Etienne, Ecole des Mines) ; Pietropaolo (CERN ; INFN, Padua) ; Picchi (CERN ; Frascati)
We report promising initial results obtained with new resistive-electrode GEM (RETGEM) detectors manufactured, for the first time, using screen printing technology. These new detectors allow one to reach gas gains nearly as high as with ordinary GEM-like detectors with metallic electrodes; however, due to the high resistivity of its electrodes the RETGEM, in contrast to ordinary hole-type detectors, has the advantage of being fully spark protected. Study of GEM-like detectors with resistive electrodes for RICH applications / Agocs, A.G. (Eotvos U. ; Budapest, RMKI) ; Di Mauro, A. (CERN) ; Ben David, A. (Tel Aviv U.) ; Clark, B. (North Carolina State U.) ; Martinengo, P. (CERN) ; Nappi, E. (INFN, Bari) ; Peskov, V. (CERN ; Paris, Ecole des Mines)
We have developed prototypes of GEM-like detectors with resistive electrodes to be used as RICH photodetectors equipped with CsI photocathodes. The main advantages of these detectors are their intrinsic spark protection and possibility to operate at high gain ($\sim 10^5$) in many gases including poorly quenched ones, allowing for the adoption of windowless configurations in which the radiator gas is also used in the chamber [...]

Progress in the development of photosensitive GEMs with resistive electrodes manufactured by a screen printing technology / Peskov, V (CERN ; Mexico U., ICN) ; Martinengo, P (CERN) ; Nappi, E (CERN ; INFN, Bari) ; Oliveira, R (CERN) ; Paic, G (Mexico U., ICN) ; Pietropaolo, F (INFN, Padua) ; Picchi, P (Frascati)
An innovative photosensitive gaseous detector, consisting of a GEM-like amplification structure with double-layered electrodes (instead of commonly used metallic ones) coated with a CsI reflective photocathode, is described. In one of our latest designs, the inner electrode consists of a metallic grid and the outer one is made of resistive strips; the latter are manufactured by a screen-printing technology on the top of the metallic strips's grid The inner metallic grid is used for 2-D position measurements whereas the resistive layer provides an efficient spark-protected operation at high gains close to the breakdown limit. First Tests of Thick GEMs with Electrodes Made of a Resistive Kapton / Oliveira, R (CERN) ; Peskov, Vladimir (CERN) ; Pietropaolo, F (INFN Padova, Padova, Italy) ; Picchi, P (INFN Fracati, Frascati, Italy)
We have developed a new design of a GEM-like detector with single-layer electrodes made of a resistive kapton. This detector can operate at gains close to 10E5 even in pure Ar and Ne and if transited to discharges at higher gains they, due to the high resistivity of electrodes, do not damage either the detector or the front-end electronics. Development of innovative micro-pattern gaseous detectors with resistive electrodes and first results of their applications / Di Mauro, A (CERN) ; Lund-Jensen, B (KTH, Stockholm, Sweden) ; Martinengo, P (CERN) ; Nappi, E (CERN ; INFN, Bari, Italy) ; Oliveira, R (CERN) ; Peskov, Vladimir (CERN) ; Periale, L (CERN ; INAF, Turin, Italy) ; Picchi, P (CERN ; INFN, Frascati, Italy) ; Pietropaolo, F (CERN ; INFN, Padova, Italy) ; Rodionov, I (Reagent Research Center, Russia) et al.
The paper summarizes our latest progress in the development of newly introduced micro pattern gaseous detectors with resistive electrodes. These resistive electrodes protect the detector and the front-end electronics in case of occasional discharges and thus make the detectors very robust and reliable in operation. [...]

Detectors for alpha particles and X-rays operating in ambient air in pulse counting mode and/or with gas amplification / Charpak, Georges (St. Etienne, Ecole des Mines) ; Benaben, P (St. Etienne, Ecole des Mines) ; Breuil, P (St. Etienne, Ecole des Mines) ; Peskov, Vladimir (St. Etienne, Ecole des Mines ; CERN)
Ionization chambers working in ambient air in current detection mode are widely used in several applications such as smoke detection, dosimetry, therapeutic beam monitoring and cetera. The aim of this work was to investigate if gaseous detectors can operate in ambient air in pulse counting mode as well as with gas amplification. [...]
