The ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider has a tigger system designed to keep high effiency for interesting events while achieving a rejection of low transverse momentum physics of about 10^7, thus reaching the ¬200 events/s storage capability of the Data Aquisition system. A three-levels structure has been implemented for this purpose, as described in this work for the case of the muon trigger system. [...]

ATLAS TDAQ application gateway upgrade during LS1
/ KOROL, A (BINP - Novosibirsk) ; BALLESTRERO, S (University of Johannesburg) ; BOGDANCHIKOV, A (BINP - Novosibirsk) ; BRASOLIN, F (INFN Sezione di Bologna) ; CONTESCU, A C (CERN / University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest) ; DUBROV, S (BINP - Novosibirsk) ; HAFEEZ, M (University of Irvine, California) ; LEE, C J (CERN / University of Johannesburg) ; SCANNICCHIO, D A (University of Irvine, California) ; TWOMEY, M (CERN / University of Washington) et al.
The ATLAS Gateway service is implemented with a set of dedicated computer nodes to provide a fine-grained access control between CERN General Public Network (GPN) and ATLAS Technical Control Network (ATCN). ATCN connects the ATLAS online farm used for ATLAS Operations and data taking, including the ATLAS TDAQ (Trigger and Data Aquisition) and DCS (Detector Control System) nodes. [...]

With the LHC collider at CERN currently going through the period of Long Shutdown 1 (LS1) there is a remarkable opportunity to use the computing resources of the large trigger farms of the experiments for other data processing activities. In the case of ATLAS experiment the TDAQ farm, consisting of more than 1500 compute nodes, is particularly suitable for running Monte Carlo production jobs that are mostly CPU and not I/O bound.
