Phase Transitions in Particle Physics - Results and Perspectives from Lattice Quantum Chromo-Dynamics / Aarts, Gert (Swansea U. ; ECT, Trento ; Fond. Bruno Kessler, Trento) ; Aichelin, Joerg (SUBATECH, Nantes) ; Allton, Chris (Swansea U.) ; Athenodorou, Andreas (INFN, Pisa ; Cyprus Inst.) ; Bachtis, Dimitrios (Swansea U., Math. Hesse for FAIR) ; Bruno, Mattia (Milan Bicocca U. ; INFN, Milan Bicocca) ; Caselle, Michele (Turin U.) et al.
Phase transitions in a non-perturbative regime can be studied by ab initio Lattice Field Theory methods. The status and future research directions for LFT investigations of Quantum Chromo-Dynamics under extreme conditions are reviewed, including properties of hadrons and of the hypothesized QCD axion as inferred from QCD topology in different phases. Continuum limit and universality of the Columbia plot / de Forcrand, Philippe (ETH, Zurich (main) ; CERN) ; D'Elia, Massimo (INFN, Pisa ; Pisa U.)
Results on the thermal transition of QCD with 3 degenerate flavors, in the lower-left corner of the Columbia plot, are puzzling. The transition is expected to be first-order for massless quarks, and to remain so for a range of quark masses until it turns second-order at a critical quark mass. [...]

The chiral phase transition in two-flavor QCD from imaginary chemical potential / Bonati, Claudio (INFN, Pisa ; Pisa U.) ; de Forcrand, Philippe (CERN ; Zurich, ETH) ; D'Elia, Massimo (INFN, Pisa ; Pisa U.) ; Philipsen, Owe (Frankfurt U.) ; Sanfilippo, Francesco (Southampton U.)
We investigate the order of the finite temperature chiral symmetry restoration transition for QCD with two massless fermions, by using a novel method, based on simulating imaginary values of the quark chemical potential $\mu=i\mu_i,\mu_i\in\mathbb{R}$. Our method exploits the fact that, for low enough quark mass $m$ and large enough chemical potential $\mu_i$, the chiral transition is decidedly first order, then turning into crossover at a critical mass $m_c(\mu)$. The chiral phase transition for two-flavour QCD at imaginary and zero chemical potential / Bonati, Claudio (INFN, Pisa ; Pisa U.) ; D'Elia, Massimo (INFN, Pisa ; Pisa U.) ; de Forcrand, Philippe (Zurich, ETH ; CERN) ; Philipsen, Owe (Frankfurt U.) ; Sanfilippo, Francesco (Orsay, LPT ; INFN, Rome)
The chiral symmetry of QCD with two massless quark flavours gets restored in a non-analytic chiral phase transition at finite temperature and zero density. Whether this is a first-order or a second-order transition has not yet been determined unambiguously, due to the difficulties of simulating light quarks. [...]

Constraints on the two-flavor QCD phase diagram from imaginary chemical potential / Bonati, Claudio (Pisa U. ; INFN, Pisa) ; de Forcrand, Philippe (Zurich, ETH ; CERN) ; D'Elia, Massimo (Pisa U. ; INFN, Pisa) ; Philipsen, Owe (Frankfurt U.) ; Sanfilippo, Francesco (Orsay, LPT ; INFN, Rome)
We review our knowledge of the phase diagram of QCD as a function of temperature, chemical potential and quark masses. The presence of tricritical lines at imaginary chemical potential mu=i pi/3 T, with known scaling behaviour in their vicinity, puts constraints on this phase diagram, especially in the case of two light flavors. The interaction between center monopoles in SU(2) Yang-Mills / de Forcrand, Philippe (Zurich, ETH ; CERN) ; D'Elia, Massimo (Pisa U. ; INFN, Pisa) ; Pepe, Michele (Zurich, ETH)
We study the potential between a static center monopole and antimonopole in 4d SU(2) Yang-Mills theory. Using a new numerical method, we show that the 't Hooft loop is a dual order parameter with respect to the Wilson loop, for the deconfinement phase transition. [...]
