The warm start to the weekend gets even warmer for a nearly summer-like start to the 4th week of October.
Clear skies and very dry air, the classic signs of high pressure, will continue through Sunday as an at-times breezy southwesterly wind continues ushering in warmer air. Overnight lows only fall to the mid 40s, 5-10° milder than the last several nights.
After a cool start, with abundant sun and dry air, temperatures will climb quickly through the morning, getting close to 80° in the afternoon. Another day around 80° is expected for Monday, potentially making for our 4th such day this month!
It wouldn't be fall in northern Illinois without a huge temperature swing in a week, however. That big change will come Tuesday into Wednesday.
First, a low pressure system swinging from the southwest into the Upper Midwest brings increased cloudiness and a very slight chance for a rain shower or two late in the day on Tuesday.
After that, a strong cold front is expected to push through the area on Wednesday, bringing yet another slight chance for rain but a much bigger drop in temperature. Highs will go from the low 70s on Tuesday to the low 60s on Wednesday.
The cooldown will peak on Thursday with highs struggling to reach 60° and overnight lows in the 30s, feeling a little more like October. Don't expect it to last long, however, as temperatures may be getting back into the 70s by next weekend.
