Mein Shiff 3

[edit]

I'm puzzled why you added 2 locations to Mein Schiff 3 (Q16323072), when by their nature ships have lots of locations, until their final resting place as a museum ship or wreck. Vicarage (talk) 14:36, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It was right at the time of adding hence why it has the "point in time" property, the data came from the gps aboard the ship, if it was available I was also back-filling any other data the ship provided. I have stopped the project now Back ache (talk) 18:47, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I can't see any advantage in putting such data in WD. Can you point me to a description of the project, so we can discuss its merits in WikiProject:Ships? Vicarage (talk) 19:00, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
it's a moot point tbh, I've already stopped. Back ache (talk) 20:23, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Podcast

[edit]

Could you please stop adding retrieved (P813) as a qualifier of number of episodes (P1113)? It's not even a valid qualifier for that property and you are just creating hundreds of constraint violations Trade (talk) 22:10, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

what constraint errors? Let me know what they are or where they are listedBack ache (talk) 04:21, 24 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Part of it is that, in edits like this, you should be using retrieved (P813) as part of the reference, not as a qualifier of the statement.
More generally, you should be checking that any sort of mass-edit does not produce constraint violations or other errors before you make it. It does look like you've been adding some helpful info about podcasts, so that's appreciated, but when it's not formatted properly it creates additional work for others to clean up. {{u|Sdkb}}talk 06:33, 24 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for appreciating what I am doing, I have removed from the script the part that adds the retrieved (it was intended for the reference not the statement) and culled then re-added the "number of episodes" that were affected. Back ache (talk) 11:32, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Podcasts with the statement URL (P2699) should be moved to exact match (P2888) instead Trade (talk) 10:45, 24 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wikiproject Journalists

[edit]

I've seen that you've contributed to  Wikidata:WikiProject Journalists.

I think it's worth developing the project. However, I suggest to expand the topic to either journalism or medias. What do you think? PAC2 (talk) 21:21, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Stay focused on journalists, thats a big enough job in itself! Back ache (talk) 06:17, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Of course but journalists work in media organisations. So it's relevant to document them. PAC2 (talk) 10:40, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

ISNI

[edit]
  1. all items about humans should have an ISNI, WMF should create a process with ISNI IA to achieve this
  2. WD should
    1. fix on its side any constraint violations
    2. position the ISNI before VIAF and the VIAF section
    3. add more existing ISNI to existing items

ISNIplus (talk) 19:54, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think as the wikidata (and ISNI) community there are things we can do to help, the most obvious being identifying services that we can use to match an ID we already have for them to their ISNI, an example of this (in the other direction) is the following code that provides an ORCID for an ISNI https://github.com/ORCID-EU-Labs/ISNI-ORCID Back ache (talk) 08:05, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"/"

maybe remove "/" from items like this https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q56755369&oldid=1706609032 159.205.181.252 19:55, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Meh... you did something in this item, exept removing "/"... don't you see warning in this statement? ("The value for 500 Queer Scientists profile (anson-mackay/) should match the regex \w+.") Here's full report https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Database_reports/Constraint_violations/P8243 159.205.181.252 12:17, 26 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ouch! It probably just means the regex in the URL pattern needs tweaking, anyway it's midnight here and I will look at it tomorrow Back ache (talk) 23:01, 26 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
anyway both the regex and those ID's are fixed now Back ache (talk) 10:25, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Podcast episode count

[edit]

Hi! Could you please correct or stop batch-adding number of episodes (P1113) for Ty & That Guy (Q105108860)? This edit has two problems:

I am currently sitting in a field listening to the recording a popular podcast bereft of both a computer and a decent connection so can not look at this right now.
I am part of the podcast group and the concept to the updates is to both to fill it as much metadata as possible for podcasts and to also help show which is "alive" and being updated and for which whose time has passed.
In regard to the accuracy of the count, the source of the data can be identified from the reference, in your case "apple podcasts".
I shall look at this on my return to civilisation. Back ache (talk) 15:31, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The issue is that itunes (I guess a from their history as a music player) state the number of tracks as the total, which at the time of writing is 191. However the creators in the (freetext) title of the latest episode say episode 175.
Luckily I can see they do also say in their RSS feed <itunes:episode>175</itunes:episode> this is good, but won't be in place for all podcasts as the way each use RSS is a little "scrappy", I will look to write some kind of "cascade of truth" and with (if it's there) "itunes:episode" as #1 *if* (as in this case) it has one season as otherwise the number will be wrong.
I quite liked the fact that several point in times and the numbers were recorded as it gives an idea of a growth curve however I can see it could get out of control so will also look to code a cull of historic data.
I am a bit busy atm so probably won't be able to code anything for a few weeks but won't run the script before I do.
Thanks for taking the to me to write to me. Back ache (talk) 04:40, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for taking time to look into the issue. Yes, I see they didn't use <itunes:episode> on every item even with the 160s, but <title> gives the number with /(?<=Ep\.? )\d+/. This podcast, or any other I'd imagine, wouldn't give a much interesting curve for this parameter (comparing to number of viewers/listeners (P5436) or social media followers (P8687) growth, for example) - as so far, with the rare exception, they release one numbered episode every Wednesday. And considering that after both occasions of unnumbered reviewing a TV show season they just continued the regular numeration, there is some chance that it will never come to Season 2 of the podcast. Flipping Switches (talk) 12:21, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
True, the curve thing is nerdy where as the episode count does have mass interest. Back ache (talk) 13:05, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I started randomly checking podcasts with different numbers of P1113 and notice more than one occasion of multiple point in time (P585) qualifiers for several properties, which don't make sense to me - 32 Minute (Q110556037) for example. Could you check them too on occasion? Flipping Switches (talk) 13:18, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can you share examples of how multiple values of P1113 are used?
Anyway, in w:uk:Шаблон:Подкаст this created an issue showing all values instead of the latest one. Flipping Switches (talk) 13:38, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Once I have have updated the script I will (cautiously) be addressing this with all of them, I have also noticed a property called "publication interval" P2896 which could be interesting to compute and add Back ache (talk) 10:22, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. With the ratio close to 1 to 100 number of season looks like an unlikely problem. Flipping Switches (talk) 13:49, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thanks for adding that URL match pattern to ‎WhatPub pub ID (P12496) but CAMRA Experience and WhatPub are two different IDs - I made a proposal for CAMRA Experience once but it didn't get created.
