People from * categories

[edit]

Hi,

I have noticed that you are moving a lot of People from * categories, moving them from category of associated people (P1792) items to category for people born here (P1464) items. Could you please explain if this was discussed somewhere? As far as I see, at least in English Wikipedia these categories are broader than category for people born here (P1464), e.g. en:Category:People from London includes Natives or long-time residents of the London region, en:Category:People from New York City has en:Category:Alumni by high school in New York City as a sub-category, en:Category:People from Melbourne includes people who were born or raised in Melbourne, or are strongly identified with the city etc. For me those categories clearly belong to category of associated people (P1792) items, so please explain why you move them to category for people born here (P1464) items, same applies for several other wikis. Thanks — NickK (talk) 14:01, 18 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Firstly, I apologize for doing such large-scale editings without any discussion. Moreover, I completely didn't know about definition of categories "People from --" in English wikipedia, and many other wikis. I have to fix all of my irresponsible deed. I'll never repeat such selfishness.
But I can say it's certain that, at least in Japanese wikipedia, categories「-- 出身の人物」only means "people who were born or raised in --" and don't include people only have relations to somewhere. So if forgiven to do, I want to left editings of links to jawiki.
Lastly, I deeply appreciate your precious advice. Thank you. --Arvin (talk) 14:43, 18 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your answer, it is very clear and it's not a problem, things are easy to fix. Regarding Japanese categories 「-- 出身の人物」, should we categorise them as category of associated people (P1792) (as they include people who were raised in and not only births) or as category for people born here (P1464) (as births only)? I checked Tokyo (Q1490) as an example and the category is listed at category of associated people (P1792) there — NickK (talk) 15:08, 18 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello.

Can you create the article en:Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences in Japanese?

Thank you.

Hi, A2D2. Of course I'm interested in Azerbaijani academic circles. However, I already have some articles that I want to write on Japanese Wikipedia. So, much to my regret, I cannot commit to write about ANAS. Deeply sorry. Arvin (talk) 00:05, 5 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
