Hi @Jsamwrites:,

I’m not sure about this item. What would seem like the proper way to model this would be to create an item for the characters, which allows to list the games using via SPARQL.

This is what we do, for example, for games with female protagonists: we do not have a corresponding for Category:Video games featuring female protagonists (Q13301728), but can do the querying using SPARQL Wikidata:WikiProject_Video_games/Queries#Games_with_female_protagonists

What do you think?

A lot of Video game infoboxes relies on Wikidata to fill out information and i don't think they should be cluttered by adding genres that technically aren't genres for the sake of documentation. The best way to approach this would be by making a list at Wikidata: WIkiproject LGBT or creating more items of LGBT video game characters that can be included in the Query. --Trade (talk) 22:29, 21 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I do think we should have 1 item per characters, and then use sexual orientation (P91). I am at the moment working on a script to create all stardew valley characters, my only issue is wether I tag all of them as bisexual (except Leah), or playersexual (and create the item). But this would permit a much better granularity in research (like, seeing what characters is what, if they are playable or not, etc). But that's also a lot more work. --Misc (talk) 13:44, 22 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Is "genre" a correct way to describe this?

[edit]

I see there's been some previous discussion about this, but wouldn't it be more correct to use depicts (P180) on elements of video games and series with something like "LGBT character" instead? EdoAug (talk) 13:36, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Per above, I think the most correct way is to create items for characters and link them using characters (P674) − see the query at Wikidata:WikiProject_Video_games/Queries#Games_with_LGBT_characters.
That said, in the meantime (it *is* a lot of work to create all those character items!), I was thinking has characteristic (P1552) might be a better fit than genre (P136)?

I must have missed a lot in the previous discussion. However, I agree with the has characteristic (P1552) suggestion! EdoAug (talk) 19:44, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
On a similar note, I see that LGBT-themed video game (Q85341917) is also used in genre (P136). As per the previous discussion, is that more viable for depicts (P180) (though why not then just use LGBTQ (Q17884))? EdoAug (talk) 19:50, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
