Please facilitate merge with Wikidata item on same topic (by merging foreign-language articles).
[edit]This item should be merged with the Wikidata item "Aladdin" (Q209515).
Ostensibly, one of them is about the Middle-Eastern folk tale, while the other deals with the protagonist of that tale. In reality, some of the foreign-language articles collected under the label of the tale are stylized as to be about the protagonist and vice versa.
More importantly, the difference between the two is not as large as to merit two articles; a person occurring in just one tale could be dealt with in the article about that tale. This is reflected in the fact that only 2 out of the 53 different-language Wikipedias containing articles about one or the other (tale or protagonist) actually seem to contain separate articles for the two.
Unfortunately, two Wikipedias – Italian and Basque – actually contain separate articles about tale and protagonist. This made me unable to merge the two items. Therefore: could anyone active on the Basque and/or Italian Wikipedia please institute a merge of the respective two articles, so that a merge of the Wikidata items can subsequently be performed. – The preceding unsigned comment was added by FishyFisch (talk • contribs) at 04:19, 21 July 2019 (UTC).
- Hello User:FishyFisch, these items should not be merged on Wikidata as the tale is a different concept than the character. A Wikidata item is not a Wikipedia article. Should there be articles that discuss the tale rather than the character the articles should be moved to the appropriate item. - Valentina.Anitnelav (talk) 08:02, 22 July 2019 (UTC)
Redundant qualifiers
[edit]Hello, Valentina.Anitnelav. How do we get the {{Wikidata Infobox}}
on https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Aladdin to stop linking to en:Aladdin (protagonist)? The "(protagonist)" qualifier redirects to en:Aladdin. The Wikidata link in the Commons infobox currently links here (Q15605357). Category:Aladin ou la Lampe merveilleuse (Galland) links to the same English Wikipedia page about the protagonist, but without using parenthesized qualifier in the link. I haven't figured out how the qualifier is being inserted into the link.— CJDOS, Sheridan, OR (talk) 11:14, 2 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hello, User:CJDOS I'm not sure if I understand your problem completely: do you want to link to en:Aladdin directly, without using the redirect en:Aladdin (protagonist)? I'm not sure if that is possible (yet). Notified participants of WikiProject Commons (Maybe they can help). - Valentina.Anitnelav (talk) 18:25, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Valentina.Anitnelav, CJDOS: The issue is that we have 2 items Aladdin (Q15605357) (person) and Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp (Q209515) (folk tale) both linking to a single article en:Aladdin (folk tale). That is usually not allowed so someone created work-around by creating en:Aladdin (protagonist), which redirects to en:Aladdin, and adding it as a sitelink of Aladdin (Q15605357). We can delete that sitelink but than we will have no English article linking to Aladdin (Q15605357). --Jarekt (talk) 18:52, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
- Jarekt has answered this well. The ideal situation would be to improve enwiki and commons to cover the person and folk tale separately. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 19:18, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
