Arthur French was the son of Arthur French and Alice Magennis.2 He married Margaret Costello, daughter of Edmond Costello, circa 8 October 1784.1 He died on 24 November 1820.1
He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for County Roscommon between 1785 and 1820.1 He was allegedly propositioned into backing the Union of Ireland and Great Britain Parliaments with an earldom, and later offered a barony with no strings attached.1 He lived at French Park, County Roscommon, IrelandG.1
