A Detailed Lesson Plan

In Physics for Grade 7

“Velocity”
Prepared by: Alinor H. Serabo
Cooperating School: Iligan City National High School

I. OBJECTIVE
At the end of the lesson, the grade 7 learners are expected to:
 Describe the motion of an object in terms of velocity

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic: Velocity
B. References: Grade 7 Science Learner’s Material

C. Instructional Materials: Visual aids, Activity Sheets

D. Concept:
Velocity is defined as displacement travelled divided by the time of travel. It refers to the rate of change
in displacement. It is also known as speed with direction.
E. Skills: Observing, Critical Thinking, Communicating
F. Values Integration: Awareness, Cooperation, Collaboration

III. PROCEDURE
Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Activity
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Preparing the Learners
Good morning class! Good morning, Sir Alinor!

Before we start, please pick up pieces of paper and plastics (The learners pick up the papers and
under your chairs. plastics)

Are you all done? Yes, sir!

2. Prayer
Please remain standing for the prayer. (The learners will remain standing)
Who wants to lead the prayer? (Student A will come forward and will lead
the prayer)
You may now all take your seats. (The learners will take their seats)

3. Attendance
(The teacher will check the attendance/ask who are (The learners will tell who are absent among
absent) their classmates.)

4. Checking of Assignment Yes, sir

Last meeting, I gave you an assignment right? (The learners will exchange their
Okay, get your assignment and exchange your papers assignment)
clockwise in 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

5. Review (The learners will raise their right hand)

Okay class, who can tell what we have done last meeting,
raise your right hand if you want to answer. We discussed about speed sir.
Yes, (student A)
Very good! We describe motion in terms of speed sir.
What else? (student B)
Very good! (The learners will do the clap)
Let’s give them let’s go clap.

Class, before we start our discussion, let me remind Yes, sir!

everybody to listen. If you have any questions, just raise
your right hand and do not answer in chorus, would that be
okay to you class?
B. Motivational Activity
Okay class, we already knew what is speed right? It will be Student B will win the race
determined by the distance travelled divided by the time of
travel. Now, let us say student A and student B are on a race.
What do you think will happen when the student B used the
shortest distance?
Do you know that using that shortest distance with speed has its
name?

C. Lesson Proper
And that’s we are going to discuss for today, the rate of change in
position with direction or the velocity. (The learners will read the objective)

Okay class let us read our lesson objective for today.

Describe the motion of an object in terms of Velocity (The learner will read)

Now, who wants to read the definition of Velocity?

Velocity refers to the rate of change of the displacement

In other words, velocity refers to the rate at which an object is

moving, or “how fast/slow did the object move?” Also a velocity
is a vector quantity or described by a magnitude and direction.

In describing the motion of an object, we do not just describe

how fast the object moves, we also consider the direction to
where it is going. We will now define what is velocity.

Velocity will determine as the displacement travelled by the

object divided by the time of travel.
The units of speed can be miles per hour (mi/hr), kilometer per
hour (km/hr) or meters per second (m/s).

At constant distance, how is speed related to the time of travel?

- The lesser the time of travel, the greater the speed of travel.
At constant time to travel, how is speed related to the distance
travelled?
- The greater the distance travelled, the greater the speed of
travel.

Now, in the race of student A and B, the winner will be the one (The learners will answer)
who will reach back the starting point.
What will be the speed and velocity of the two students?

D. Generalization
What is the quantity of speed?

How could we determine the speed of an object? (Formula)

What is the quantity of velocity?

How could we determine the velocity of an object? (Formula)

E. Evaluation

Calculate the speed and velocity. 0.75 m/s

1. A man walks 30 meters in 40 seconds going east and another

15 m in 20 seconds in the same direction.

1.56 m/s

2. A car travels 200 meters East in 120 seconds then 50 meters

West in 40 seconds.

2 m/s

3. John runs 40 meters North in 15 seconds and then 30 meters

East in 10 seconds.
