Microsoft has already added Copilot to Windows, Edge, Teams, and Microsoft 365, and it's now expanding the AI to serve as a chatbot in the Telegram app.

The bot is available from Microsoft and Telegram users who add it to their chats can have one-on-one conversations with the chatbot. It works on the desktop and mobile versions of Telegram, although you will have to verify your phone number to add it. Microsoft says the verification is to confirm your location since the bot doesn't currently function in the EU.

If you're searching for it on Telegram, make sure you're downloading the add-on from @CopilotOfficialBot, Microsoft's official account for Copilot on Telegram.

Once installed, it works like it does on other platforms. You can ask questions, search for helpful information, or just converse like you can with other AI bots. The Verge notes that it can only accept and respond with text; it can't do things like generate images.

According to Microsoft, the bot can find movie times, check out upcoming video game releases, generate advice for your personal life, find recipes, check sports scores, or serve up a joke or brain teaser. Once it's added to your chats, it functions like any other chatbot on Telegram.

It's the latest push to get AI into messaging apps. Meta added Meta AI to the search boxes on WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger. Google did the same by adding Gemini to Google Messages. Even inside Telegram, it's possible to use ChatGPT bots, although OpenAI hasn't officially made one for the platform yet. You can also engage with ChatGPT on Snapchat with its built-in AI bot.

About Joe Hindy

Contributor

Hello, my name is Joe and I am a tech blogger. My first real experience with tech came at the tender age of 6 when I started playing Final Fantasy IV (II on the SNES) on the family's living room console. As a teenager, I cobbled together my first PC build using old parts from several ancient PCs, and really started getting into things in my 20s. I served in the US Army as a broadcast journalist. Afterward, I served as a news writer for XDA-Developers before I spent 11 years as an Editor, and eventually Senior Editor, of Android Authority. I specialize in gaming, mobile tech, and PC hardware, but I enjoy pretty much anything that has electricity running through it.
