Financing
All international students who are not citizens of EU/EEA/EFTA countries must be able to document that they have enough funding to live in Norway in order to be granted a student visa. Read more about documenting financing here.
Stipends and loans
NTNU does generally not offer any stipends/scholarships or loans. However, we recommend that you investigate if there are any funding opportunities yourself. Below are some stipends, loans and scholarships from third parties that are applicable to certain students at NTNU.
For master´s degree students:
- Erasmus Mundus: scholarships for EU-students
- Anglo-Norse Society: £3000 is awarded each year to the best qualified British citizen receiving admission to a master´s degree at NTNU. You do not need to apply.
- EU loans: Some EU countries offers its citizens favourable loans to help you finance a master degree in an Erasmus+ Programme country
- NORPART MA Scholarships: NTNU offers five scholarships to students from Ethiopia who will pursue MPhil in childhood studies in the academic year 2023/2024 (Note: Changes to this scholarship scheme may arise if the motion to introduce tuition fees in Norway passes)
- GSEP - Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership: Scholarship for outstanding Master's-level students from developing countries in fields related to sustainable energy development.

NORSTIP – Scholarship from the Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills for selected students from certain NTNU partner universities in lower and middle income countries. Separate application process at the partner universities.
For exchange students:
- Erasmus+ grant: Grants for exchange students through the Erasmus+ programme, to help cover travel and subsistence costs. Check with your home institution whether you are eligible for an Erasmus+ grant when exchanging to NTNU. If so, the grant is paid out by your home institution or a national agency in your home country.
- BiGTREE (South America): Scholarship for students who exchange to NTNU from one of the following:
- UNMSM
- Universidad del Rosario
- Universidad del Valle
- Universidad ICESI
