The Fayetteville State Univ. Veterans Business Outreach Center hosted its annual National Veterans Small Business Week networking event at its offices in The Hub across from the university. VBOC Director Robin Livingston opened the proceedings as City of Fayetteville, North Carolina Mayor Mitch Colvin presented a proclamation for NVSBW. SBA District Director Mike Arriola shared stats about the contributions which veteran-owned businesses make to the broader economy as well as an overview of SBA programs for veterans to start and scale their businesses. A lively panel discussion featured Damone Brown, M.Div. MBA, NC VetBiz President Dr. Tanya O. Jones, and Susan and Eric Stein sharing life experiences in running their businesses. #nvsbw #thankyouforyourservice

SBA DISASTER UPDATE 💥 SBA deadline for physical injury loans has been extended to Jan. 7, 2025. (The deadline for economic injury loans is June 30, 2025.) Please continue to submit your applications while we await funding from Congress so that your processed loan (if approved) may be funded promptly. 💥 We are up to 29 locations for in-person assistance. Check locations list at https://lnkd.in/gugNFjyT for the location nearest you. 💥 On the heels of a successful recovery resource fair in Old Fort yesterday, SBA is pleased to help with a resource fair in Hendersonville at our Disaster Recovery Center starting this Friday and Saturday. District Director Mike Arriola, McDowell Technical Community College Small Business Center Director Teresa Marie Valentino, and Marion Business Association Director Freddie Killough teamed up for a Recovery Resource Fair in rural Old Fort NC Nov. 12. The Fair was organized in response to Hurricane Helene as a means of gathering small business service providers in one space to help small businesses in the affected area. Mayor Pam Snyder and McDowell Tech President Dr. JW Kelly kicked off the proceedings which included financial assistance programs from FEMA and SBA, and a Q&A. Resource partners on hand included SBA, FEMA, NC SBTDC, Asheville SCORE, Western Women's Business Center , Small Business Center at McDowell Technical Community College, McDowell TDA, MARION DOWNTOWN BUSINESS ASSOCIATION INC, and others. Special thanks to Kye Laughter from Senator Ted Budd's office for supporting the event. #ecosystem #wncstrong

After Texas, North Carolina has the largest rural population of any state. Team SBA was proud to spend time in the city of Kinston in rural Eastern North Carolina today (Nov. 7) with partners to showcase available programs to help our eastern folks launch and scale their businesses. Cale Grady of the Kinston-Lenoir County Chamber of Commerce moderated a fireside chat with City of Kinston Mayor Dontario Hardy, EPS and SBA Southeast Regional Administrator Allen Thomas, while SBA Deputy Aregnaz Mooradian led a panel discussion of resources for prospective and existing small businesses. The event concluded with a resource fair including SBA, NC SBTDC, Veterans Business Outreach Center, NC Rural Center, North Carolina Military Business Center, Lenoir Community College Small Business Center, and City of Kinston stakeholders. #ruralsmallbusiness #ecosystem #ruralamerica #whereyoulive

Team SBA honored Native American Heritage Month with a visit to the Qualla Boundary, home of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians. During a procurement-focused event hosted by Kituwah Global Government Group, SBA Southeast Regional Administrator Allen Thomas delivered opening remarks. RA Thomas and District Director Mike Arriola chatted with Principal Chief Michell Hicks during the event. Later, Deputy Aregnaz Mooradian gave an overview of the SBA's primary procurement certification programs for small businesses. #nativeamericanheritagemonth #native8a

We are pleased to announce that Ms. Tosh R. Comer has joined the SBA North Carolina District Office as an Outreach & Marketing Specialist responsible for the Raleigh-Durham area. The Raleigh area office will continue to be at the Wake-Tech North campus. Tosh comes from within the North Carolina small business ecosystem, serving most recently as Coaching and Connections Manager with the NC Rural Center. Prior to that, Tosh served small businesses as a counselor with the NC SBTDC. Tosh is a proud graduate of North Carolina Central University and holds a Master's in Entrepreneurship from Western Carolina University. We welcome Tosh into the SBA family -- please join us in welcoming her to her new role with us.

SBA Administrator Isabel Casillas Guzman visited City of Hendersonville NC today (Nov. 1) as she continues her survey of western North Carolina, signifying her personal commitment to the region after the devastating floods one month ago. Administrator Guzman visited Elijah Mountain Gem Mining and tried her hand at gem mining herself after a talk with management about conditions at the business. Next, Ms. Guzman visited the disaster recovery center where various agencies including the SBA were hard at work with clients. In a private session, Ms. Guzman checked in with homeowners on their applications and personal situation. The Administrator capped off the day with a roundtable meeting including Mayor Barbara Volk, Henderson County Commission Chair Rebecca McCall, Henderson County Manager John Mitchell, Henderson County Chamber of Commerce's Bob Williford, Downtown Hendersonville Manager Jamie Carpenter, WNC SCORE Chair Michael Dexter-Smith, Mountain BizWorks' Matt Raker, NC SBTDC's Elena Gupta, MSEE, MBA, and Blue Ridge Community College SBC's Benjamin Smith.
