How does a linear legal career look like vs non-linear one? Linear career at a law firm often looks something like this: Associate 3 -> Associate 2 -> Associate 1 -> Senior Associate 3 -> Senior Associate 2 -> Senior Associate 1 -> Counsel -> Counsel -> Counsel -> Partner 3 -> Partner 2 -> Partner 1! Whereas non-linear could be anything really - for example something like this: In-house lawyer -> Associate 2 -> Associate 1 -> In-house lawyer -> Senior Associate 2 -> Senior Associate 1 -> Counsel -> General Counsel -> COO -> Anything! There is no ‘right path’. There is only the path that works for each of us individually.
