November is National Diabetes Awareness Month. Diabetes is a chronic (long-lasting) health condition that causes blood sugar levels to rise far above what’s healthy. This disease affects millions of Americans, but with medical testing and healthy lifestyle choices, it’s very preventable!  Symptoms and Prevention : Certain symptoms can indicate diabetes or prediabetes. You should talk to your primary care provider immediately if you are experiencing:  Unusual hunger or fatigue  Blurry vision   Tingling in the hands and feet   Slow-healing sores, and/or   Increased urination (especially at night)

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! This is an international health campaign that promotes screening and prevention of the disease that affects 2.3 million women worldwide.  Did you know?  It’s projected that more than 360,000 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. But there is hope! Advancements in early detection methods and support continue to increase the chances of survival. When caught in its earliest, localized stages, the 5-year relative survival rate of breast cancer is 99%.

Let’s celebrate National Hispanic American Heritage Month! This is a month-long celebration of Hispanic and Latino history, culture, and communities. While we always celebrate these communities, we give extra recognition to the tremendous impact they’ve had for generations to the history and culture of the United States, including important advocacy work, vibrant art, popular and traditional foods, and much more. The timeframe of the month is historically significant because many Central and South American countries celebrate their independence days within these dates.

This is a day that commemorates the 1920 adoption of the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution, which granted women the right to vote. It was first celebrated in 1971, officially recognized by Congress in 1973.
