“I’m not sure what to do…” Associates are often unsure about their practice area, or maybe the firm, or sometimes, they just don’t know.   What to do if it is you facing it?   A few suggestions that can help you:   ➡️ Find a mentor. If you don’t have one, find someone who you admire and respect, who can guide you. Be willing to spend time with them to discuss your questions and concerns.   ➡️ Identify your concerns and goals. Take a minute - Identify the challenges you are facing. Write down what you want to change and what the end goals are. ➡️ Cultivate patience.  Change takes time and this time in your career may be challenging.    Stay focused on finetuning your career and building the foundation for your continued success!   #CareerSuccess #Mentoring #LawyerDevelopment

When we meet someone for the first time, there’s often a polite exchange of names, a handshake, and then that familiar, awkward silence as we search for the next topic. Typically, the conversation starts with the inevitable “So, what do you do?” which rarely leads to an interesting conversation.     But what if you could transform that awkward moment into a meaningful conversation? The key is to create an engaging elevator pitch, which is a short and compelling summary of who you are, what you do, and why it matters, designed to create an opportunity for a greater discussion.   How do you get started? See what our Managing Director Sarah Sikkelee shares about building the perfect elevator pitch! https://lnkd.in/gmneDnnd

The last quarter of the year is the busiest for lawyers. The days are long; there are client needs, billable hour requirements, and creating your business development plan for the coming year.   What should you consider as you create your business development plan for the new year? 🤝 Clients. Connect with your clients to check on any remaining needs. Express your gratitude for the opportunity to work with them this year, and discuss their goals for 2025. 🌐 Referral sources. Your network is a good source of new clients. Meet with key contacts to explore potential opportunities. 📝 Thought leadership. Are there conferences at which you can speak? An article or blog post to write discussing an upcoming change in the law or an industry trend? 🎯 Setting goals. What do you want to achieve next year? Do you want to expand relationships with existing clients? Develop new clients? Write down the goals for each quarter.   Your business development team is an excellent resource for creating a business development plan. They can help you cross the finish line this year! #AttorneyBusinessDevelopment   #AttorneyBusinessDevelopmentPlans #ThoughtLeadership

The question isn’t if but when. We all hit a speed bump in our careers. When it happens, it is unsettling. How to manage those moments is not something you learn in law school or in undergraduate school. So, what do you do when you find yourself in one of these moments? Dan Harris found himself in this exact spot several times in his very successful career as a TV anchor, journalist and author. He is also known for a very successful app he co-founded called Ten Percent Happier, and just announced that he was leaving the company due to differences with his co-founders. This change was definitely not something he envisioned as the app and related business opportunities have been wildly successful. Dan recently posted on his social media channels that while this was not something expected, he learned so much from the experience and identified 8 takeaways that he felt were absolutely worth sharing. Here are a few of his lessons learned with a link to the rest: ➡️ Conflict is human and “healthy conflict” is a learnable skill. ➡️ Failure can be an opportunity. ➡️ Never worry alone. (danharris.com) https://lnkd.in/g6RF9D4B (Note: Dan can be a bit “unfiltered” in his language.) What’s the best takeaway? You bounce back and are more resilient. #CareerTransitions #UnplannedCareerChanges #ManagingCareerChallenges #Resilience

Creating A Strong Attorney Resume Your resume sets the stage for your career. It’s the first thing that a potential employer will read about you, and you have the opportunity to make a good or bad impression. It’s often difficult to know how much information to include, what format to use, and what a potential employer is really interested in knowing about you. What are some of the best practices we see at ELR Legal Search for creating a standout resume? 📄Less is more. We all want to tell the best version of our story. Our experience shows that the best length for a resume is no more than two pages. Use a professional font, consistent formatting, and bullet points. 🔑 Highlight Key Skills: Include both hard skills (like legal research, litigation, contract drafting or negotiation) and soft skills (such as communication, and client relations). Make sure these skills match the requirements of the job for which you are applying. 🏆 Showcase Achievements: Quantify your accomplishments wherever possible. For example, mention cases won, deals closed, or efficiencies introduced. Use specific metrics to demonstrate the impact of your work. 🎓 Include Relevant Education and Certifications: List your degrees, licenses, and any additional certifications relevant to the legal field. Make sure to include the name of the institution, degree earned, and graduation date. ⚖️ Include Bar Admission and Jurisdictions: Make sure to mention your bar admissions and the jurisdictions where you are licensed to practice. 🤝Highlight Pro Bono Work and Professional Affiliations: If applicable, include any pro bono work or volunteer legal services you’ve provided. Also, list any memberships in legal organizations or professional associations. 🔍 Proof and Seek Feedback: Before sending out your resume, have it reviewed by peers or mentors. Be sure to proofread carefully. Ensure your resume is free of typos and grammatical errors. Your resume is the first impression you make with a potential employer. If you have questions about how to create a strong resume, give us a call. www.elrsearch.com For more resume tips, checkout the LinkedIn Post by one of our Managing Directors, Erica Hess. #AttorneyResumes #TipsforAttorneyResumes #LegalProfession #ResumeWriting #ResumeBestPractices
